"Based in the UK Finance team in Cardiff and reporting to the Financial Controller, the Senior Management Accountant will be a key member of the UK Insurance management accounting team, which provides management information and support to Admiral’s UK insurance businesses.
Role Responsibilities will include:
- Line management of a small team the UK Insurance Management Accountants
- Developing a good understanding of the activities of the business and a strong working relationship with senior managers across the entire business, in order to be able to provide financial, numerical and procedural assistance to a variety of departments
- Ownership of the month end accounts for the UK Intermediary business including liaison with Group Finance to work through any queries on consolidation
- Owning the production of insurance bordereaux issued to the Group’s insurance companies, co-insurers and reinsurers
- Developing existing control and accounting processes and drive improvements with a view to reducing the time it takes to complete month end activities
- Support with the implementation of a new Financial Accounting software package
- Leading the development and implementation of accounting processes, controls and MI for new products as appropriate
- Preparing regulatory returns for the group’s intermediary companies
- Pro-active monitoring of performance vs. budget / re-forecasts and summarising variances for senior management through meetings with heads of departments across the business
- Support the external audit process and act as a day-to-day contact for the business
- Providing general support and completing ad-hoc tasks as required by heads of departments across the business in addition to Finance managers
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Qualified Accountant with a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience in a Management Accounting or Financial Accounting role
- Strong academic background with strong numeracy and analytical skills
- Prior experience of managing people is essential
- Experience of accounting processes and a comprehensive understanding of financial controls
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with senior management
- Self-motivator, pro-active in all aspects of the role
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Prior experience in Insurance or Financial Services is desirable
