Role Overview

Admiral Financial Services Ltd (AFSL) is a growing lending business and is on track to become a strategic pillar within the Admiral Group. We have a vacancy for a Financial Risk Manager to join the Risk team reporting to the Chief Risk Officer. The role will focus on understanding and managing our financial risks, particularly credit risk. You will be responsible for embedding a robust financial risk management framework to support AFSL business strategy. It will involve identifying, analysing and reporting on areas of current and future financial risk exposure as well as providing oversight and assurance for first line activities to ensure the business operates within risk appetite.

The successful candidate will be able to hit the ground running in a fast-moving, innovative and high-profile environment, at least five years’ prior experience in a credit risk/analytical risk role is therefore a prerequisite. Responsibility will be given to set direction and lead the way, whilst retaining a hands-on approach.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Identifying, analysing and reporting on areas of emerging and potential financial risk across the customer lifecycle that could impact current and future AFSL financial positions
  • Support the development and implementation of a second line financial risk management framework, designing or reviewing a range of technical financial risk appetites, policies, procedures, models and controls
  • Monitoring business performance against risk appetite and key financial risk metrics, ensuring proactive steps are taken to sufficiently mitigate current and emerging risks as appropriate
  • Support the development and management of a stress testing framework to assess our current and future exposure to changes in the macroeconomic environment and the impact on business KPIs and risk appetite
  • Assessing the impact of regulatory requirements and change on the financial risk management framework, ensuring they are being adequately understood and translated into the business appropriately
  • Active involvement in monthly Credit Committee

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5 years’ experience in an analytical risk role
  • Experience of extracting, manipulating and analysing data using SAS/SQL (or similar data tools such as R and Python)
  • Demonstrable numerate background, preferably with a degree in a numerical subject (although this is not essential)
  • Proficient with Excel, Word and PowerPoint to produce clear documents and analysis, presenting complex information in an effective manner
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail, comfortable presenting and influencing at a senior level
  • Strong planning/organisation skills with the ability to manage your own workload, prioritise competing workloads, and support wider projects
  • Experience of working with the following, although not essential, would be an advantage:
    • Unsecured lending
    • Stress testing
    • Credit risk/portfolio management
    • IFRS9
