Job Purpose

The purpose of the role is to provide data administrative support to the business across several BI platforms, while being based in an IT environment.

Main Duties

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual, with or without industry experience, who is working towards Linux Administration certification and has an interest in managing Linux-based application, such as web servers, BI applications and services, managing users and security handling desktop client application questions.

Working with the wider business and other teams in IT, you will ensure that a comprehensive and reliable support system is in place for data users. Communication is key, as is the ability to translate between data users’ requirements and the requirements of IT.

Other duties include:

  • Troubleshooting of various data applications, including SAS and Teradata
  • Responsibility for user administration
  • Maintenance of application (including metadata and host) security and authorisation
  • Liaison with the IT Support department on application issues
  • Maintenance of application logging and audit
  • Monitoring of data system-wide and application performance
  • Responsibility for application backup and recovery

Experience and Qualifications Required

Must have:

  • Ability to diagnose network and data connectivity issues, plus a working knowledge of SQL and Unix scripting
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence applications such as MicroStrategy, SAS Business Intelligence, Pentaho, Jasper, Business Objects etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Linux systems and Cloud technologies.
  • Experience of working with IT technologies
  • System documentation experience
  • Familiarity with the basic concepts of computing languages
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong numerical skills
  • Good attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Highly organised

Desirable: 

  • Knowledge of performance tuning and security
  • Programming experience
