About Admiral Money

Admiral Money is an exciting, new division of Admiral Group. We have the freedom and innovation of a small start up with the security of a large parent company, Admiral. 

The journey started when we launched unsecured personal loans in June 2017. We went on to be the first direct to consumer car finance provider in December 2017. Since then, we have gone from strength to strength and have some exciting plans for the future.

We’re looking for people who are keen to learn, excited about getting stuck in and are ready for a challenge to help us to achieve our aim of creating a special lending business for our customers. 

The Role

As an Engineering Manager within Admiral Money your role will be to build up the right capabilities in the technical people in your engineering team, equipping them with the skills, tools, and standard approaches to deliver functional excellence, and ensuring that they are focused on delivering value to the business. The Engineering Manager takes responsibility for the line management of the technical people within the team but retains Engineering responsibility (typically around 50% split between hands on engineering and line management).

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment, development and retention of the engineering team members
  • Managing Engineers; including pay reviews, performance reviews, one to ones, objective setting and career development (including PDPs and training plans)
  • Coaching and mentoring, to help grow the technical and personal skills of all team members
  • Maintaining and enhancing the inclusive environment, aligned with Admiral’s core values
  • Supporting the Domain Leads to ensure effective contribution of all Engineering team members
  • Writing clean, high-quality, high performance, maintainable code
  • Developing and support software including applications, database integration, interfaces, and new functionality enhancements
  • Supporting test and deployment of new products and features
  • Participating in code reviews, retros and demos
  • Working with the Architecture team to define solutions
  • Collaborate with Product Owners / Scrum Masters in order to effectively manage backlogs / delvier change

Requirements

  • A desire to support others to succeed and grow
  • A strong interest in people management and leadership
  • Expertise in the development of containerised microservices
  • Experience with Agile, Scrum & cross-functional teams
  • Ability to take ownership and responsibility for the quality, maintainability, and security of your code

Desirable

  • People management experience
  • Experience working with alternate cloud platforms such as GCP / Azure
  • Writing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Development expertise in multiple languages including Python, Golang and Java
