About the Role

The data platform created in the Cloud by the Data and Analytics Tribe is now the backbone of our data strategy. Over the next few years, we will be migrating our data and analytics workload to the platform, and we are looking for data analysts to kick start this journey with us.

We are looking for an experienced data analyst to help us build our data pipelines and reports.

Responsibilities

You will be part of a multi-disciplined team building a cloud data platform, spanning better data and better tooling.  Across the tribe you may get involved in:

  • Developing reports and dashboards to enhance and replace existing reports, using new reporting tools including Looker and our in-house portal
  • Developing an in-depth understanding of our internal customers, enabling you to identify areas and opportunities for development and efficiencies
  • Becoming an effective point of contact for other departments to discuss business problems and potential solutions
  • Assisting in training and onboarding new users to the toolset and managing the change created by a new way of working
  • Maintaining existing ETL processes from our existing data sources
  • Reconciling our data in the cloud back to source systems and develop tools and code to make the process more efficient

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and numerically minded individual, that has a keen interest in data and can think creatively around a brief and challenge. You must have a keen interest in programming, be excited to cross-skill, have good problem-solving skills, and be ready to research and learn new techniques that can be applied to the task at hand.

We work in an agile fashion and are looking for someone who can work using their initiative as well as part of a diverse team whilst delivering to agreed timelines in a fast-paced and changing environment. Support and training will be offered on any new technologies or area.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or Data Science (you can also apply for this position without a degree if you have experience in the fields mentioned)
  • Experience with a programming language such as SQL and ideally Python or R
  • Experience working in a Cloud environment, preferably GCP
  • Experience working with Big Data, ideally in the field of insurance but not a must
  • A genuine interest in data and analytics and driving forward capability in the field
  • Strong numeracy and problem-solving skills
  • Curious mindset with a desire to explore and learn about new tools and tech
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Additional Information

Due to Covid, the whole team is working remotely. We will provide you with everything you need to work comfortably from home. We expect you to be working remotely for the foreseeable future, however, once it is safe to return to the office, we will have days in the office for the team to collaborate. We would generally expect the successful applicant to be in the office around 40% of the time on average as a minimum, and this would increase for certain periods of planning and team building.

Salary, Benefits and Work-Life Balance

We do not have a set salary for this position, as it will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience. We are happy to see CVs from all candidates who meet the requirements and will be happy to discuss the remuneration package.

At Admiral, we are proud to be a diverse business where we put our people and customers first. We have great benefits to ensure employees have a great work-life balance; it's one of the reasons we're voted no. 1 in the 2019 Sunday Times Best Big Companies to Work For in the UK. We want you to have an element of freedom to define a working lifestyle that supports this, so accommodate flexible hours wherever possible.
