Our On-line Sales tribe here at Admiral Group Plc is growing. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Test Automation Engineer to develop and manage test automation frameworks for a variety of applications within our multi-skilled Agile team . The role has a heavy emphasis on coding and will require programming experience in Typescript / JavaScript.

We are a progressive team working with advanced technologies such as Playwright, Percy, BrowserStack and best in class tools such as Visual Studio Code, GitHub, Jira, and Confluence. As part of your role, you will be actively encouraged to contribute to all aspects of testing, creating, and maintaining automated end to end test scripts, developing, and maintaining a framework and expanding automation test coverage whilst adhering to strict quality standards. As our business diversifies, you will be expected to work on and support new functionality as it is developed.

Main Duties

  • Ability to analyse software requirements to write and execute comprehensive, thorough, and effective automated end-to-end automated test scripts and regression packs to verify the quality of new or enhanced software releases
  • Being able to work effectively within the Scaled Agile methodology and participate fully in sprint ceremonies, communicating back to team on sprint progress, blockers etc.
  • On-going development and maintenance of automation framework; adhering to strict coding standards set within the team
  • Ability to record, report, analyse and manage defects found during testing and manage through to closure
  • To help raise the profile of testing within Admiral IT by providing high value automated test solutions at the right level and promoting continuous improvement within the team
  • Identifying and implementing suitable detailed test activities for each sprint set of epics/stories in accordance with best practice standards and processes as advised
  • Providing appropriate planning and estimation of test activities to support both sprint planning and enable continuous improvement activity
  • Support the organization shift towards continuous testing delivery (incl. implementing automated test frameworks).
  • Contribute to the API or UI automation packs (using Playwright or Rest Assured respectively).

Experience

  • Experience of testing complex IT projects through to completion, resulting in delivery of robust and high-quality applications
  • Proven software testing experience including functional, regression and exploratory testing of web applications and services.
  • Excellent understanding and experience of Web and API testing technologies and frameworks such as Playwright/Percy/BrowserStack and programming languages such as JavaScript / Typescript.
  • Experience in carrying out the correct type of testing at the right level whilst adhering to the Practical Test Pyramid
  • Experience with API test automation using tools such as Rest Assured, Postman, SoapUI or similar
  • Experience in carrying out the correct type of testing at the right level whilst adhering to the Practical Test Pyramid.
  • Experience in following the Agile Scrum, Kanban & BDD process
  • Experience of working effectively within the Scaled Agile environment and participate fully in Agile ceremonies, communicating back to team on progress, blockers etc.

 

Technical abilities

Essential Technical skills

  • Strong capabilities and proven experience of building & maintaining automation testing frameworks
  • Experience with automated testing using Selenium / Playwright/ WebdriverIO
  • Excellent working knowledge of JavaScript / Typescript
  • Experience with API tools such as Rest Assured, Postman, SoapUI or similar
  • Experience in using Cucumber (Gherkin)
  • Experience in working in Agile environments
  • Experience in using version-control systems such as GIT
  • Experience in using tracking tools such as Jira
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills

Desirable Technical skills

  • Understanding of the different types of Automation Frameworks e.g., Data Driven, Keyword, Process etc.
  • Proven knowledge and application of SQL
  • Understanding of web frameworks such as Angular or React
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins
  • Experience with Browserstack
  • Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes
  • Experience with Chai
  • Experience with JSON / XML and executing server requests
  • Understanding of Node.js and NPM
  • Understanding of Cloud technologies e.g. Azure, Google Cloud

Qualifications (preferable but not mandatory)

  • HND in Computer Science / or proven experience within IT
  • ISTQB Certified Tester
  • ISTQB Test Automation Engineer

Interview process

  • There will be two stages to the process. The first part will be a Technical assessment and the next stage a 90-minute interview.
  • Interviews will take place throughout November and December.
