We have a great opportunity for a Data Protection Manager to join our Privacy & Data Protection Team. You will help the Group Data Protection Officer (GDPO) and UK Finance Lead, to create and maintain a culture of data protection and privacy throughout the Admiral Group plc. You will also deal with the challenges to the rights and freedoms of individuals that come from areas such as Big Data, Profiling algorithms and innovation technologies in line with the Business’s strategies, interests, and goals.

Main Duties

  • Support the GDPO and UK Finance Lead on all data protection & privacy matters applicable to the UK Finance (Admiral Money) product lines, as well as supporting where Group diversification projects apply.
  • Inform and advise the business by providing legal and technical knowledge covering highly complex issues surrounding data protection laws and internal policies, where applicable.
  • Supervise, review and conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) across all Admiral Money products and services, whilst ensuring key stakeholders understand their responsibilities and accountabilities with DPP risk treatment/ mitigation recommendations.
  • Co-ordinate the preparation of weekly/monthly/quarterly management information, reports and assessments for the GCPO and the relevant UK Boards and Committees (incl. RMCs and GRC).
  • Assisting in keeping the Group’s Privacy Notices, Templates and Policies accurate and up-to-date and ensure any emerging topics are covered.
  • Helping to improve the functioning of the organisation’s risk management and governance in line with applicable controls.
  • Actively contribute to meetings and working groups on Data Protection & Privacy topics.
  • Provide DPP related training and awareness to the entity teams as required.
  • Liaising with entity data protection leads to reduce duplication and streamline cross entity processes.
  • Support the GCPO and entity with any data risk event response and data breach notification procedures and ensure compliance with relevant requirements.

Key Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Ability to find practical, pragmatic and creative solutions to compliance issues
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to make sound judgments under tight deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies and their potential social, reputational and economic impacts
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise tasks and projects
  • Good personal communication skills capable of dealing with wide range of stakeholders, including senior management
  • Strong team player and proven ability to lead and manage teams including with coaching and mentoring.
  • At least 5 years relevant working experience, within a data protection and privacy role, and ideally a proven track record of dealing with data protection, privacy and / or information risk issues for multi-national organisations.
  • Evidential knowledge of data privacy legislation in the UK, including GDPR and PECR
  • Experience in managing data incidents and breaches.
  • Ability to make good judgements regarding data privacy risks and to prioritise resources and activity around managing those risks.
  • Experience in working on transformation and diversification programmes – preferred
