"An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Mortgage Credit Lead within the newly established Specialist Mortgage Lending business at Admiral Money. This role is seen as an important piece of the puzzle in creating and building a market leading, digital first, specialist lending proposition.
As Specialist Mortgage Credit Lead you will be working in within the newly established team providing insight and input into all Credit related actions as well as being an important part of broader decision making through the set-up phase. You will be working alongside a data analyst but will also have access to the best in class Credit and Data Teams within Admiral Money.

Role Objectives
- Risk Strategy - You will understand our strategic plans (business and product) and create meaningful and evolving credit policies and procedures, ensuring the front end design is optimised for credit decisioning. Definition of disruptive credit policy for new segments, propositions, products and markets.
- Business Partnering – You will manage our 3rd party credit data sources for Specialist Mortgages including (but not limited to) bureaus & housing data providers, looking for new & innovative ways to challenge the status quo. Sourcing market data to enable benchmarking and to identify new opportunities
- Credit Performance – Responsible for evaluating credit performance & recommending improvements to policy & procedures. Set the credit risk appetite and ensure we operate within these risk thresholds. Production of Credit MI and insights including credit profiling and risk emergence forecasting.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and deploy effective and efficient decisioning rulesets and policies, producing actionable proposals and implementation plans
- Monitoring the risk/reward profile of the portfolio, reviewing and proposing changes to acquisition strategies and customer affordability assessments as appropriate
- Assessing new data sources, tools and techniques to ensure the quality of credit decisioning is maintained in a fast-changing external environment
- Providing waterfall views of credit rules at product level, identifying problem areas and opportunities to expand
- Identifying any emerging trends, concentrations, potential new risks
- Raise change requests according to approved proposals, providing technical support for rule implementation/change, defining test cases
- Generate key management information to support business direction setting and ensure Risk Appetite goals are met
- Design and deliver enhancements to credit risk strategies to achieve the right outcome for our customers
- Apply commercial acumen to interpret results and produce actionable recommendations to optimise how we deal with risk
- Reporting and monitoring the effectiveness of our front-end customer outcome, across a range of channels and products
Requirements
- Proficient with Excel, Word and PowerPoint to produce clear documents and analysis, presenting complex information in an effective manner
- Demonstrable numerate background, preferably with a degree in a numerical subject (although this is not essential)
- Strong written & verbal communication skills and attention to detail, including writing full noting papers and change proposals
- A broad understanding of the full responsibilities of a credit risk function, from Acquisition through Customer Management to Collections/Recoveries, with demonstrable working knowledge of application decisioning
- Experience of extracting, manipulating and reviewing data using SAS/SQL (or similar data tools such as R and Python)
