Senior Data Engineer

We have an opportunity for two experienced Senior Data Engineers to join one of the fastest growing parts of Admiral Group.

The Data Product Squad is a new team being established to continuously modernise the data platform so that end users have all the latest and greatest tools to and to have access to data that they can trust.

About the role

The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for the creation, maintenance and documentation of business critical data pipelines. In addition to their technical responsibilities, they will also be responsible for promoting and teaching best practices to other Data Engineers. The beating heart of Admiral Money is data, giving this role an exciting opportunity to do work that has a meaningful impact on the core objectives of the business.

• Data Strategy - You will understand our strategic plans (data, business and product level) and create meaningful ETL pipelines to facilitate modelling, analysis and reporting. You will create pipelines in close collaboration with business stakeholders to make sure the latest data is available when needed.
• Shape technology and ways of working - You will work with our Data Product Owner and other Data Engineers to steer and shape the data platform to create a class leading, technology led Data lifecycle.  We'll also be looking for you to play a role in embedding new ways of working such as Agile.
• Tool Creation and Deployment - Working with business leads you will understand their campaign objectives and work with them to source, select, and access the best data to achieve their business aims. You will make data available in formats, timings, and quality that accelerates the success of the business campaigns.
• Business Partnering - You will effectively communicate the status, value, and importance of data to partner with Admiral Money business leaders as an SME. You will engage with relevant teams in the Admiral Group (Data and Analytics community) to drive collaboration and development of Data Engineering across the business. Where appropriate you will work with other companies to develop bespoke solutions or new capabilities.

About you

You are curious, methodical and have an eye for the big picture. Understanding how your technical work enables wider business objectives. You aren't content with just building and maintaining pipelines but with constantly improving the underlying infrastructure and processes to keep Admiral Money at the bleeding edge.

Skills Required

• Strong experience of AWS and associated data services (Redshift, Glue, CloudFormation, Lambdas, S3) or an equivalent cloud platform (GCP/Azure)
• Strong experience in using Python and PySpark.
• Experience in using version control with Git and a remote repository service such as GitHub.
• Experience of working in some form of Agile.

Desirables

• Experience of creating and using CI/CD pipelines 
• Previous experience working within Financial Services 

In this role you will work closely with our Data Scientists, Data Analysts, and BI Engineers while reporting in to the Data Product Owner.

All colleagues will receive 33 days holiday (including banks holidays) when they join us, and this will increase with length of service, up to a maximum of 38 days (including banks holidays). You also have the option to buy or sell up to five days of annual leave in addition to your allocation.
