Group Risk Manager

About the Role - Key Responsibilities

  • You will support the business in its desire to identify, measure, monitor, manage and report risks across the business.
  • Developing and owning standards, policies, frameworks, processes, approaches and reporting
  • Providing oversight and challenge of the work completed within the entity risk teams including reviewing and challenging plans and resourcing profiles and overseeing key decisions taken within the entity
  • Producing consolidated reports for presentation to Group Board/ Board committees
  • Identifying emerging risks and trends across the Group entities
  • Maintaining relationship with UK Regulators
  • You will aim to enhance the approach for the identification, resolution, capture and escalation of operational and customer outcome risks whilst mitigating any exposures.
  • You will work closely with senior management and our Finance team to review all aspects of risk management.
  • Provide consultancy and support Heads of departments in managing risk within their areas via regular risk reviews, risk event root cause analysis and education and awareness sessions.
  • You will support the Risk Appetite process, proposing appropriate Early Warning Indicators (or Key Risk Indicators), Triggers and Limits and reporting mechanisms to the relevant committees and/or Boards.
  • You will support the stress and scenario testing for the Group and input to the wider ORSA process including the production of the annual ORSA report for Board approval.

About You - Key Competencies, Behaviours & Experience

  • Possess an understanding of the regulatory landscape and the application of FCA rules within an intermediated insurance business
  • Maintain a customer-centric outlook allied to a clear understanding of the operational processes within the business
  • Be professional and organised in the approach to all accountabilities recognising that this role is key to the effective running of the business and the management of risk and reputation
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory developments and demonstrate a willingness to share that knowledge for the benefit of the business and team
  • Use initiative and proactivity to progress issues independently and quickly assimilate issues and necessary actions, seeking clarity and/or support as required to secure the right outcome
  • Use highly effective planning and organising skills to support task management and problem-solving and demonstrate excellent time management capability
  • Ensure that all communication is clear and appropriate for its intended audience with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation

Candidate profile:

  • Able to build open relationships and gain consensus with all internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and proactively as well as leading a team
  • Able to multi-task, work under pressure and lead large complex projects
  • Objective, timely and confident decision making skills
  • Attention to detail, with an analytical mindset
  • Strong influencing and persuasion skills
  • Commercially minded
  • Ideally the successful candidate will be a qualified accountant /actuary or have equivalent risk qualifications

On the 8th of November, our very own Admiral Academy hosted their 5th International Learning and Development (L&D) Conference. Over 150 training professionals came together from all corners of the business to collaborate, share best practise, network and most importantly celebrate success. The day kicked off with the amazing Admiral Inspire Choir and an opening speech from Head of People Services and Head of Learning and Development. David Stevens (CEO) also recorded a personal thank you message to attendees for their efforts in winning the L&D Award at the Best Big Companies to Work for Awards this year!The day included a whole host of talks from managers around the business, with keynote speaker Garan Pieniazek who gave an inspiring talk.
