The Platform Technology area is looking to recruit a Domain Lead for the DBA Service Team. This is an already well-established team that services multiple Database technologies of which Oracle and SQL Server are the two main technologies.  The successful candidate will lead and provide both technical leadership and pastoral care for the team that will play an important part in Admiral’s developing database strategy and adopting a Cloud First strategy whilst working alongside other Domain Leads in Platform Services.

Job Purpose:

The Domain Lead is a part of the Platform Services leadership team, working alongside the DBA Technical Lead and the Scrum Master (where applicable) to ensure achievement of the team’s OKRs. The Domain Lead has overall accountability for the successful delivery of committed work supporting external Tribes and/or other customers. The Domain Lead is responsible for assisting the team to deliver value, achieved by understanding the customer needs through external Tribe events and other stakeholder engagements, escalating organizational impediments, managing risk, and driving a culture of continuous improvement. The Domain Lead also has line management responsibility for the Technical Lead and Engineers within the team and will have a mindset of delivering promises whilst balancing the needs of the team.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Accountable and owns KPIs/OKRs for the team and maximises the team’s ability to deliver these
  • Accountable owner and role model for living the following values: productivity, quality, transparency, and openness
  • Accountable for providing open and effective communication channels leading to greater knowledge transfer within the team and across Platform Services
  • Accountable for owning and managing risks, issues, and dependencies at team level
  • Accountable for understanding operating within budgets and ensuring adherence to Guardrails at team level
  • Accountable for maintaining and facilitating team level resource plans, forecasts future resource requirements, and working with Service Owner, Technical Lead, and Scrum Master to agree future resourcing strategies

Key interactions:

  • Collaborates with the Head of Platform Technology on strategic planning
  • Collaborates with the Head of Platform - Process, Reporting & Talent Evolution on Process, Reporting and People
  • Collaborates and consults with other Domain Leads to maintain alignment of plans and manage dependencies
  • Collaborates and consults with Scrum Masters to address resourcing bottlenecks and challenges
  • Collaborates and consults with Product Owners to agree deliverables and priorities
  • Maintains relationships with the executive team to ensure good understanding of business goals and strategy
  • Maintains relationships with the key suppliers and vendors to maintain excellent service
  • Collaborates with the Leadership of the other teams across Platform Services to ensure an excellent understanding of dependencies and aggregated risks and issues.

Desired Knowledge and Experience:

  • A bachelors or associate degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
  • Either strong SQL Server or Oracle database administration experience, including infrastructure, backup/restore, availability management, clustering, HA, performance tuning, indexing, query optimization and capacity planning.
  • Either strong Oracle or SQL Server database security experience in Auditing, Logging, Encryption, Hardening and Identity Management
  • Experience of managing databases within cloud platforms such as OCI, Azure, Google, PaaS database, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in Scrum development practices through BDD/TDD using associated tools for testing and continuous integration & deployment
  • Knowledge and experience with Line management through both coaching and mentoring techniques
  • Experience operating within heavily regulated environments including external regulated consumer products and service offerings
  • Knowledge of identification and management of specific engineering, design, and testing standards and practices that comply with internal organisation IT governance and architectural standards within a heavily regulated environment
  • knowledge and experience with 3rd party service providers including facilitation of RFP, onboarding, and performance management (design of SLA and overall KPI)
  • Experience and awareness of IT architectural governance, standards, and methodology
  • Experience and awareness of CISO governance frameworks, standards, controls, and auditing documentation covering both business and technology solutions currently within product backlogs
  • Extensive experience with project management fundamentals with the ability to apply principles, tools, and techniques to develop/plan, manage or execute projects to ensure successful completion
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of tools such as: Jira, Confluence, etc.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Oracle Database Administration, High Availability, Security, Performance Tuning, PL/SQL
  • OCA or OCP certification
  • MCSA SQL Server
  • Cloud Platform as a Service database certification or experience
  • SAFe® 5 Agilist certification
  • Scrum Master certification (CSM Certified Scrum Master, PSM – Professional Scrum Master)
