I'm a gay man with ADHD and at Admiral, I Belong

Introducing the latest blog of our I Belong series; giving you a peek into Admiral, meeting our fascinating and inspiring colleagues from around the Group and giving insight into our friendly, diverse and inclusive workplace culture, meet Ciaran…

A passionate traveller and foodie

Hi there, I’m Ciaran and I joined Admiral in February 2020 as part of the Grad Scheme. In my short time here, I’ve had many exciting opportunities, and thanks to the Grad Scheme I’ve been able to work in Marketing, Learning and Development and Claims People and Communications, where I’ve recently taken a permanent position. I went to Cardiff University where I studied Spanish and Italian, and I’m passionate about travelling, food, dance, cinema, and music.

Admiral: a cut above the rest when it comes to supporting their LGBTQ+ and Neurodiverse colleagues

I chose Admiral as an employer because I knew they were a cut above the rest when it comes to supporting LGBTQ+ and Neurodiverse colleagues and that the opportunities on offer here would be amazing. They’re a fantastic employer – throughout the pandemic I’ve felt incredibly supported and cared for, and it never got in the way of my career and development because Admiral is really great at doing the right thing for customers and its people. I love working here because I’m given the freedom to be myself. In fact, we’re all encouraged to be ourselves and this helps me to do the best job I can do without worrying about putting on a performance like I‘ve had to when working elsewhere.

Tips on joining us

If you want to join Admiral, I could not recommend it more! My tips for joining the business include:

·       Be yourself in the interview – the people interviewing you love to know who you really are, so don’t be afraid to share your passions and interests

·       Be as detailed as possible in your application – the best piece of advice I had from an employee at a university careers fair was to use the whole wordcount on the application form, this forced me to really think about how I’ve used my skills previously and my application was all the better for it

·       Finally, I’d say to just believe in yourself

Take your career to the next level and take a look at some of the fascinating roles we have available.
