"A vacancy has arisen within Admiral Financial Services (AFSL) for an Underwriting Manager.

The role involves leading the Underwriting team whilst we transition to a new way of working. This includes the management of the operational team as well as leading the strategic direction of underwriting. They will responsible for ensuring the team is performing to a high standard whilst supporting key strategic projects. The Underwriting Manager will play a vital role in creating a positive and productive working environment, whilst meeting department objectives.
The successful candidate will be able to quickly fit into a fast-moving, innovative and high-profile environment, and will be required to hit the ground running; at least two years’ prior experience in an underwriting management role is therefore a prerequisite. Candidates will be given responsibility to set direction and lead the way, whilst very much retaining a hands-on approach.
Duties include
- Being responsible for the day to day running of the team
- Setting, reviewing and monitoring objectives for the team in line with department objectives
- Ensuring reporting/MI is reviewed, and insights are evaluated in order to improve performance
- Representing underwriting in relevant forums and updating key stakeholders on the team’s activities and performance
- Carry out regular QA of the teams’ output and identify training needs
- Being an SME for the team and providing guidance and support to team members
- Assist with the implementation of new systems/processes such as Open Banking
- Lead on strategic underwriting projects and ensure that operational requirements are clear and accurate
- Prioritising workloads in order to meet SLAs and deliver on team objectives
Required Skills and Experience:
- At least two years’ underwriting management experience in a lending business is essential
- Contribute positively to the Admiral culture, ensuring staff are happy and engaged
- Have the confidence to challenge existing work practices to ensure we are continuously improving as a team, and encourage an environment where staff are proactively suggesting improvements to process
- Able to work on their own initiative with excellent time management and organisation skills
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work as process/systems evolve
- Positive outlook and able to demonstrate a positive influence on to the team
- A strong focus on quality, receptive to feedback, and effective when giving feedback to others
- Be an effective influencer with all levels of staff, with excellent communication skills
- Experience with the following would be advantageous:
- Unsecured personal loans or Motor Finance
- CIFAS/SIRA loadings and assessments
- Open Banking/PSD2
