About the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Grade C fee earner / paralegal within the Serious Injuries Team. This is a chance to be part of a growing department, within a market-leading firm. The cases in SIT are challenging but rewarding, supporting seriously injured clients to rebuild their lives and securing them compensation that can grant them the independence accident related injuries have taken away.
This is a fee earning role with a case load of up to 40 pre-litigated and litigated SIT multi-track & intermediate track files. The cases are mainly RTA, with some EL/PL claims. You will be responsible for running your own files from inception right through to settlement, and you will have a mix of Part 7 litigated and non litigated files. Your caseload will comprise a mixture of liability admitted and denied cases, with potential to be of significant value, and with a value in excess of £25,000. You will also benefit from the assistance of a Case Assistant to help drive your files to a positive outcome for the client.
In addition to managing a case load, you will be required at times to assist the Grade A solicitors upon their high value/catastrophic files with certain delegated tasks, accompanying them to conferences, attending upon witnesses, client visits etc. The combination of having a case load and assisting on more complex cases will require excellent time management skills and an ability to manage and prioritise tasks, while always meeting clients’ expectations.
Case handlers will also be required to provide guidance to the case assistant(s) within SIT who will in turn be providing support to you. Further, all fee earners within SIT provide support and assistance via the Case Clinics to other case handling areas across the wider business.
On-going training is a significant requirement within SIT, particularly in specialised areas (brain injury, spinal injury, amputations, catastrophic claims etc). Whenever such courses are attended externally a fee earner will be required to feedback to the team(s) within monthly meetings. SIT also provide internal training to other departments and case handlers will be asked to contribute upon areas within their knowledge and experience.
Your Experience
- Prior case handling experience in personal injury is essential
- Previous experience of running Part 7 claims is essential
- Previous experience in handling multi-track litigation / working in serious injuries team is highly desirable but not essential.
The Role
The core requirements for a fee earner within SIT are:
- Managing a case load of Intermediate and Multi-Track Files
- Achieving Targets (time and financial)
- Supporting Grade A fee earners
- Mentoring Grade D case assistants
- Supporting the wider firm/other departments through clinics and training
At Admiral, we are proud to be a diverse business where we put our people and customers first. We want you to have an element of freedom to define a working lifestyle that supports this, so we accommodate flexible hours wherever possible. We also have a Smart Working approach whereby Case Handlers are required to be in our Cardiff office one day a week minimum to ensure time with their teams (At present the team office days are every Tuesday). There may of course be occasions where business needs require more Team / In Office time (particularly during your training and probationary periods). For any new starter there is a minimum requirement of 1 month in office training which will include your in-person induction and buddying with your new team. This may be extended to 3 months where necessary.
The core hours are Monday to Friday between 8.00am/9.00am – 5.00pm/6.00pm however there is an expectation inherent to this role that when required, a fee earner will need to travel to attend upon clients, witnesses and/or experts that may lead to either exceeding these hours or staying overnight in a hotel. Similarly attending Court hearings, trials or conferences/joint settlement meetings may require extended time out of the office.
You will be provided with achievable targets (to include settlement and billing). Additionally, you will be expected to play your part in any marketing events, both internal and external. You will also be expected to mentor handlers in other areas of the business, assisting them with queries via face to face and team clinics, workshops and /training opportunities. Your targets within SIT are based upon a) Recorded time (WIP) and b) Costs recovered. Targets will be set for all fee earners within SIT upon completion of a settling in period (no less than 3 months).

Tell us about you and your Admiral story?
I graduated from a Sports Journalism University course in 2016 and was left wondering where my future career would lie. After working for a year in a Contact Centre, I applied for different admin roles, where I fell into the world of internal recruitment and fell in-love with it. I have been working in internal recruitment for almost 6 years now and really wanted to find a role where I could grow even more as a recruiter. After hearing so many great things about the culture at Admiral I felt like it was a no brainer, and the perfect place for me to be able to develop myself even further.
Why would you recommend Admiral?
Since joining Admiral, I’ve never felt so welcomed into a team. Every person, whether in Recruitment, or the wider business has welcomed me with open arms. A hug non-negotiable for me was joining a team that supports you and your development, and I feel like Admiral has done this in my short time since joining.
