We’re looking for someone who enjoys working in a hands-on PMO role with a passion for supporting the delivery of change, whilst keeping things lean and fast paced. You will be aligned to a number of strategic Programmes (depending on the size) and undertake activities such as reporting, information management, financial tracking, risk/issue management, change control and maintaining governance standards. Your main focus however will be on quality and assurance during all aspects of delivery and coaching more junior members of the team. As a Senior you may be expected to have to rotate and react according to the Portfolio risk when things are not on track or need extra support. You will have expert level attention to detail in the role at all times and be proactive in your approach to work.
You will be supporting at least one programme within the Data & Technology Group, there will be opportunity to help us shape and grow the PMO function. You will lead the way in identifying opportunities to reduce governance overheads whilst ensuring the Programmes/ Projects still meet their minimum requirements. Agile experience in this role is very beneficial in thinking “outside of the box”.
Main Duties:
- Play the role of critical friend to your delivery stakeholders and junior peers
- Expert in industry standards for your role, change lifecycle, governance, assurance & quality standards
- Lead the Programme to implement a Quality Assurance strategy;
- Define and implement governance
- Provide assurance within the project framework standards suggesting improvements along the way
- Identify and analyse key gaps relating to quality and drive improvement activities to close gaps
- Produce and track project timelines, schedules, resource & financials.
- Communication, management and escalation of Milestone Plans, Risks, Issues, Dependencies and Actions (RAID).
- Support identification and tracking of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) or key metrics agreed by Leadership for the Programme.
- Facilitate key Programme checkpoints and meetings.
- Lead PMO interactions with the wider business.
- Provide quality information on Programme progress to the Portfolio Office.
- Drive transparency, collaboration and continuous improvement mind-set with the PMO and Programme.
- Act as the SME for PMO ensuring comms is distributed within your stakeholder network for the Programme.
- Presentation at Change Community on your subject matter when required.
- Build relationships with Change Engagement Manager, Governance Manager and Learning and Development team to ensure all guidance and learning is aligned.
Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in hands-on programme support within strategic programmes.
- Strong understanding of both waterfall and agile methodologies and ways of working.
- Skilled in stakeholder engagement and providing quality assurance support.
- Ability to coach and collaborate effectively with PMO and programme colleagues.
- Recognised Subject Matter Expert (SME) in programme support or PMO practices.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with strong time management and organisational skills.
- Confident in reviewing work and delivering constructive, supportive feedback.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify quality concerns and propose improvement measures.
- Proficient in using tools including Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Office Suite, and PowerBI.
- Passionate about quality, continuous improvement, and evolving team practices.
- Innovative thinker with a proactive approach to enhancing ways of working.
Location
This can be a remote role with a requirement to attend our Cardiff office once a quarter or as and when required. If you live within 50 miles of our Cardiff office, the requirement would be once a month in the office.
