This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-skilled agile team in which you will be part of a project to transform the way customers interact with Admiral.

Conversational AI technology is the backbone of Admiral’s customer engagement tribe. Over the next few years, we will continue to bolster our natural language capability and move more towards conversational design to service our customers.

We’re  looking to utilise data in fresh and exciting ways. We’re using tools such as Google Cloud Platform, Dialogflow CX, Twilio, Azure DevOps, BigQuery, and Terraform. We aim to both make sure that the conversational AI can make use of a wide range of data that Admiral already knows about callers, and that our conversational designers can make use of the data generated from within these calls to further improve the product.

About The Team

You will be part of the Customer Engagement Tribe, working with small teams that are inclusive, autonomous and collaborative.  We encourage team members to share ideas, solutions and decision-making to drive forward the effectiveness of the teams and products that we deliver. Initially, the team you will be part of will be focussing on data solutions, however in the longer term the teams remit may evolve.

This role is open to remote candidates.

About You

We are looking for an experienced QA engineer, who has either worked in codified automation testing of back end systems, or wants to expand into the field. You must have a keen interest in testing and quality assurance, applying shift-left, test-first principles. As you will be working in the relatively new area of Conversational AI you will also be expected to be looking for new ways to ensure the products are of the highest possible quality.

As part of an agile team we are looking for someone who can work both independently and as part of a team within a fast-paced and changing environment. You will work with the rest of the team to improve our processes.

Responsibilities

Within the multi-discipline team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the services and applications we are developing. This will include:

  • Ability to refine user stories and define the test approach for them.
  • Ability to record, report, analyse and manage issues found during testing.
  • Providing opinions and observations on how we can improve in a constructive way.
  • Participation in sprint ceremonies and championing a shift-left approach to testing for earlier feedback in the development lifecycle.
  • Work closely with product managers and developers to gain expertise in what the product does and how it works.
  • Working with the developers to build and maintain automated frameworks and tests.
  • Contribution to test policy documentation, collaborating with others in continually improving the test process and raising standards within the tribe.
  • Keep up to date with the latest advancements in test approaches within voice and Conversational AI.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience of working in an agile environment
  • Experience of working collaboratively to improve overall test and other processes
  • Automated API/component integration testing with experience using Postman or similar tooling
  • Experience in integrating automated testing into a CI/CD pipeline
  • Experience of working in cloud-based git repositories
  • The ability to learn new skills, tools and new problem domains
  • The ability to think about test coverage holistically and guide the team to improving it

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Good knowledge of web technologies, especially server-side ones
  • Experience in building test automation code (we currently use typescript, mocha & chai)
  • Experience with public cloud platforms & cloud databases (we currently use GCP)

Interview Process

This will be a two-stage process; the first stage being an online assessment and the second stage being a one-hour competency based interview via Microsoft Teams.

Location

For Hybrid workers (within a 50-mile radius of our Cardiff HQ) there is an expectation to work from the office twice a month.  For remote workers (outside of a 50-mile radius of our Cardiff HQ) there is an expectation to attend the office a handful of times a year when required (i.e big meetings, workshops etc).

Salary, Benefits, and Work-Life Balance

We do not have a set salary for this position, as it will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience. We are happy to see CVs from all candidates who meet the requirements and will be happy to discuss the remuneration package.

At Admiral, we are proud to be a diverse business where we put our people and customers first. We have great benefits to ensure employees have a great work-life balance; it's one of the reasons we’re consistently voted one of the Sunday Times Best Big Companies to work for in the UK. We want you to have an element of freedom to define a working lifestyle that supports this, so accommodate flexible hours wherever possible.

All colleagues will receive 33 days holiday (including banks holidays) when they join us, and this will increase with length of service, up to a maximum of 38 days (including banks holidays). You also have the option to buy or sell up to five days of annual leave in addition to your allocation.

You can also view some of our other key benefits here.
