About the job
We're looking for a Product Designer to join our team at Veygo!
About Veygo
Veygo was founded 6 years ago – part of the pioneering incubation venture ‘Admiral Pioneer’ - created to seed and launch exciting scale ups to disrupt existing marketplaces.
Veygo has so far seen an impressive 50% YoY growth. We currently provide our customers with temporary and learner car insurance - products designed to make life easier for those wanting to share or borrow cars, insure their own car for a short amount of time, or for people learning to drive.
What Makes Veygo Different?
- We’re building flexible policies for learner drivers and people looking to share cars – whether owned or borrowed.
- Veygo provides comprehensive cover to those customers, meaning that the car owner’s existing insurance policy and no claims bonus is safe if the person borrowing the car has an accident.
- All Veygo’s insurance is available by the hour, day, week or month and customers can get a quote in minutes.
- All backed by Admiral, voted Best UK Car Insurance Provider six years in a row by The Personal Finance Awards.
Whilst our mission today is to put people in control of their own journey our ambition is to create a youth lifestyle brand that take us beyond car insurance. Disruption is in our DNA and we’re always relentlessly looking for collaborative self-starters and innovators with the desire to challenge how we do things today; to push the boundaries and drive us through our onward growth journey. Veygo’s culture is vibrant, open, creative, and disruptive.
The Role
We’re looking for a talented and visually strong Product Designer to join the team working on improving our core customer experience. You’ll be joining a business revolutionising the way people use car insurance to get around.
This is a unique opportunity to work across the Veygo website and mobile app, with plenty of room for new and exciting features. You’ll also be working with a fresh and young brand identity and design system. You’ll also be joining at a pivotal moment, as we chase ambitious growth goals and seek to put our native app at the heart of the Veygo customer experience.
You’ll be part of a cross-functional team, shipping value to customers regularly to create an industry leading experience.
Key Responsibilities
As a Product Designer, you will:
- Work in a cross-functional team: you’ll work closely with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to deliver digital products that address customer needs while achieving our strategic business goals.
- Discover, deliver and iterate: you’ll participate in all phases of the product, from discovery to delivery to iteration, taking deliverables from initial concept and user journey mapping to high-fidelity UI designs.
- Help your team to understand customer needs: conduct and facilitate user research, such as customer interviews and usability testing, to gain a concrete understanding of customer behaviours, needs, and pain points. Act on these insights to deliver innovative and industry-disrupting experiences.
- Drive learning and experimentation: design and execute experiments to test assumptions, validate customer needs, and identify the most effective solutions. Utilise a data-driven approach, incorporating qualitative and quantitative methods to iterate and continuously improve our products.
- Champion a customer-centric, disruptive culture: advocate for a customer-centric approach to design and foster a culture of creativity, empathy, and quality throughout the organisation. Help us push boundaries and challenge traditional norms in the insurance industry through innovative design.
- Contribute to design strategy and systems: help shape our broader design strategy and support the development and maintenance of our design systems, ensuring consistency, scalability, and a high-quality standard across all digital touchpoints.
Skills and Experience Required
- High-level of design craft: you are a well-rounded designer with strong visual skills. You have a portfolio of well-crafted work, with examples of beautiful and functional UI work.
- Mobile app design: you understand the nuances of mobile app design, including platform-specific guidelines and optimising for performance and engagement on smaller screens. You have a passion for creating great app-led experiences.
- Research and testing: you are familiar with a wide range of research methods, including user interviews, usability testing, A/B testing, and surveys. You constantly seek opportunities to validate your ideas with real users and refine them based on data and insights.
- Storytelling: you know how to clearly communicate the thinking and assumptions behind your design ideas and invite others to help make your thinking even better.
- Proven impact in previous roles: your portfolio showcases examples where you have solved real customer problems and delivered measurable impact. You can demonstrate your design process, decision-making, and the outcomes achieved
Nice-to-have
- Experience in fintech or insurtech: you have experience working in a fintech, insurtech, or other digital services environment, ideally with a focus on disruptive strategies. You understand the unique challenges and opportunities within these sectors and are passionate about using design to drive change and create customer value.
- Experience working with a Gen-Z audience: you have previously worked in a similar position, and have knowledge of the Gen Z audience.
Additional Qualities We're Looking For
- Experience in a high-growth, fast-paced environment: you are comfortable working in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment where speed and agility are crucial.
- Leadership potential: you are eager to grow into a leadership role, mentoring junior designers, and contributing to the development of a strong design community within the organisation.
Please note: this is a hybrid role based in our Cardiff office once-twice a week.
