"Job Purpose
The DnA tribe is responsible for creating and maintaining a cloud-based Data and Analytics platform for Admiral Group. The tribe works across a significant number of Admirals strategic initiatives including Pricing, Fraud, Customer Contact and Digital.
The tribe is made up of five engineering squads with a view of increasing to nine squads over the coming months. The tribe covers a wide range of disciplines including data warehousing, web development, API development and machine learning.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Head of Technology that can take the lead in providing technology solutions that deliver the business outcomes for Data and Analytics. You will ensure the achievement of the Objectives and Key Results as agreed with the Product lead.
You will work in a cross functional leadership team, leading the tribe through mentoring and coaching, alongside the Head of Product and The Head of Delivery. You will promote engineering best practices across the tribe and work with the architecture lead to ensure that the technical solution aligns with technology roadmaps and architecture strategy
You will work across and with the wider technology organization to remove technology and engineering related impediments, resolve technical constraints and escalations, and be a champion for the technology strategy within Data and Analytics.
Main Duties
- Accountable for design, engineering, and quality of the technical delivery of the Tribe
- Leads on the creation of technical solutions for the Tribe epics/stories, collaborating across the teams to ensure solutions are delivered to an agreed schedule and level of quality
- Provides technical leadership and engineering guidance to engineers in the Tribe resolving technical constraints and roadblocks faced by the Squads
- Owns technical risks/issues and plans mitigation action at the tribe level
- Ensures that the technical solution follows architectural governance processes as set out by the CTO function and supports on ensuring that technology choices and implementations align with technology roadmaps and architecture strategy
- Ensures the technical team is working to help achieve the technology strategy of Admiral UK and is an active contributor to the strategic agenda
- Owns technical dependencies and provide input to Quarterly Tribe Alignment, Monthly Tribe Planning, and Sprint Planning
- Line management of the engineering leads.
- Owns and drives improvements to engineering processes for the Tribe
- Own specific epics to address technical debt ensuring that solutions do not result in uncontrolled technical debt.
- Takes ownership to resolve technical impediments for the Tribe
Knowledge and Skills required
Engineering
- Broad Engineering knowledge from software to data is required. The tribe builds and supports a wide range of products from bespoke web applications, internal API’s, machine learning deployments, data warehousing and graph databases
- Deep knowledge of cloud-based data and analytics solutions, with GCP experience preferred.
- Experience working with and the embedding of security best practices into day to day engineering
- Previous experience of working with products that have regular releases through automated CI / CD processes
- Previous experience of collaborating with architecture functions to deliver solutions aligned with technology roadmaps and Enterprise Architecture strategies
- Previous experience of managing and eliminating technical debt
Leadership
- Previous experience working at a senior level, engaging, and communicating with c-level, business, and technology stakeholders.
- Previous experience leading and coaching a large department with multiple workstreams running in parallel.
- Previous experience of Scaled Agile practices and ways of working, including the use of tools such as Jira, Confluence etc
