Overall Role as Head of Risk (AIGL)
This role will require you be based in Gibraltar a minimum of 50% of time, however you will ideally be based fully in Gibraltar, and as such will need you to be already based there or willing to relocate.
Reporting to the AIGL CEO you will be tasked with overall oversight responsibility for the Enterprise Risk Management, Financial Risk, Data Protection, Controls and Information Security functions to meet the needs of the business, Board and external regulator. Your key responsibilities include:
- To model and drive a strong risk culture at AIGL
- Responsible for the AIGL Risk function’s oversight of our UK intermediaries continuous adherence to risk requirements and AIGL’s management of operational and resilience risks
- To have responsibility for AIGL’s oversight of policies and procedures for countering the risk that the firm might be used to further financial crime
- Responsible for oversight of AIGL’s implementation and adherence to Admiral Group’s Enterprise and Conduct Risk Frameworks and associated policies
- Proactively identify, manage and mitigate risks to the business arising from its operations, financial exposure and conduct
- To act in accordance with the Risk Strategy and Framework, including maintaining an appropriate risk register at AIGL
- To help ensure that the supply of management information is appropriate to ensure that AIGL can manage the risks that it is responsible for in its risk universe and sufficient to provide effective oversight on those risks that are outsourced to intermediaries or other Group companies
- To ensure that AIGL’s risk oversight activities remain proportionate to the risks facing the business
- Ensure that all risk events are reported to the AIGL Risk Committee (and/or escalated to Group Risk) as they arise or failing this during the regular update process
- To ensure the appropriate systems and controls operate in the areas under your direct control
- To ensure the development and monitoring of key performance indicators
- Responsibility for AIGL’s elements of the combined Group ORSA, liaising with colleagues around the group to ensure that the assumptions underpinning it are relevant and subject to appropriate challenge
- Attending and presenting at AIGL’s Board as well as Audit and Risk Committee meetings as required
- To liaise closely and work in partnership with the Group risk team
- Point person for risk related interactions with the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission
Candidate profile:
- Strong interpersonal skills to build collaborative and effective relationships internally and externally
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks and implement effective controls
- Very strong academic background with significant insurance industry experience
- Experience of playing a significant role in a senior management team
- Clear communicator, strong experience of presenting to boards, committees etc
- Strong resilience and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Open minded with the humility to learn or see a different point of view. Leave your ego at the door
