An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Graduate Rating Programmer. We are looking for someone to join the Rating team within the Pricing and Analytics area of our multi-award winning business at its global headquarters in the centre of Cardiff.

We have consistently been recognised as one of the best companies to work for in the UK and we are now looking for talented individuals as we expand into exciting new products and services. While based in Cardiff, the Rating Team practices a hybrid working philosophy where individuals are expected to work from the office a few days a week and from home the rest.

Who are the Rating Team?

The Rating Team are responsible for maintaining the rating engine for our Motor and Household products including Car, Van, Home and Landlord Insurance. We work closely with our Pricing and Analytics areas to understand their requirements and ensure that we carry out changes in a timely fashion. Our role is crucial in ensuring the customer journey is not affected.

What would your role entail?

As a Graduate Rating Programmer you would be responsible for making changes to our rating structure using the software package Ratabase. This process is made up of multiple stages, from liaising with the analyst and investigating potential impacts on the existing rating structure, to the development and coding of the change within Ratabase, to testing, and finally implementation into the live environment.

As your system knowledge grows, the expectation will be for you to take on more responsibility and become more independent when carrying out investigation, building and testing of increasingly complex changes.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • A logical mindset - The ability to combine analytical thinking based on numbers together with common sense and ingenuity.
  • Attention to detail – The ability to review and write concise documents.
  • Time management – The ability to prioritise work and manage your own workload
  • Communication – Have confidence in liaising with other members in the team and other departments both verbally and in writing.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Qualifiations in a STEM subject
  • Experience of coding in any language may be beneficial (i.e. VBA, SQL, Python, Java)
  • Experience of using Microsoft products such as Excel and Word

Salary, Benefits and Work-Life Balance

We do not have a set salary for this position, as it will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience. We are happy to see CVs from all candidates who meet the requirements and will be happy to discuss the remuneration package.

At Admiral, we are proud to be a diverse business where we put our people and customers first. We have great benefits to ensure employees have a great work-life balance; it's one of the reasons we’re consistently voted one of the Sunday Times Best Big Companies to Work For in the UK. We want you to have an element of freedom to define a working lifestyle that supports this, so accommodate flexible hours wherever possible.

All colleagues will receive 33 days holiday (including banks holidays) when they join us, and this will increase with length of service, up to a maximum of 38 days (including banks holidays). You also have the option to buy or sell up to five days of annual leave in addition to your allocation.
