Google Cloud is a key strategic platform for Admiral, hosting and delivering mission critical workloads and solutions consumed by customers and internal teams.  Adoption and utilisation of the Google platform is accelerating and will continue to do so during 2023 and beyond.  Admiral is expanding its Google Platform team with passionate and motivated cloud engineers who are focussed on delivering innovative, secure technical solutions through engineering excellence.

Who are the Google Platform Team?

The Admiral Google Platform team is comprised of highly skilled and motivated engineers who are responsible for the ongoing design, development and operations of core Google platform infrastructure services.  As Google cloud experts we also provide technical guidance, solution development support, automated infrastructure deployment and cloud security best practices on a consultancy basis to internal product and architecture teams looking to leverage Google cloud to host their solutions. 

The role

As a cloud engineer you will:

  • Play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful design, development and deployment of new cloud-based solutions, the migration and modernisation of existing solutions in line with Admiral’s cloud strategy.
  • Create Infrastructure as code modules and deployment pipelines that can be applied and re-used across the enterprise.
  • Deliver on HA/DR, security, capacity, and compliance strategies for existing and new applications.
  • Support, optimize and enhance our existing GCP based solutions and workloads.
  • Drive effectiveness, efficiency, and continuous improvement using automation and adoption of appropriate and approved tools.
  • Collaborate with architecture, security, and product teams to ensure effective designs and application of the cloud and hosting services.
  • Evangelise topics such as monitoring, performance, and reliability throughout our IT support and delivery teams.

Key Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Required skills & experience

  • Worked in complex hybrid multi-cloud environment.
  • Design and implementation of infrastructure, applications and GCP solutions at enterprise level.
  • Experience of infrastructure as code development and deployment including but not limited to Terraform and Terragrunt.
  • Experience of automation & Orchestration tools such as Azure DevOps, Rest APIs, Kubernetes.
  • Strong scripting and coding knowledge (Python, Bash, Powershell etc).
  • Solid understanding of cloud services and cloud service provider capabilities including
    • Cloud networking
    • Cloud security and governance
    • Containerisation and orchestration with Kubernetes
    • Serverless platforms and services
    • Hybrid cloud architectures
    • Cloud operations and administration
  • In-depth understanding of cloud security concepts and practices.
  • Experience with datacentre migration, cloud migration, integration, and consolidation efforts.
  • Authoring and maintaining of infrastructure standards and solution design documentation.
  • Worked in Agile team following agile methodologies and practices in particular SCRUM.

  • Is an excellent communicator, can articulate technical concepts and topics to non-technical audiences both in writing, in diagrams and in person.
  • Is confident of their skills, abilities, willing to mentor and knowledge share with others.
  • Can work confidently and effectively in a geographically dispersed team.
