We are looking for a Data Scientist with experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP). You must be keen to make an impact using innovative analytical methods and be ready to expand your skills as the field progresses.

Data and technology take centre stage in delivering our market-leading products, and we have a large Data Science function that builds and deploys machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions for all business areas, including Pricing, Marketing, and Claims.

The successful candidate will report into the core Data Science function for training, support, development, and best practice. However, they work closely with the business teams to develop meaningful solutions that best meet their needs.

The role will cover a diverse range of approaches, including projects with unstructured text data as well as traditional structured data problems. With over 4 million interactions with our customers every day, we have a lot of data that can be put to good use.

Main Duties

  • Solving business problems using a range of advanced statistical, machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques; developing, testing and deploying solutions.
  • Collecting and preprocessing large volumes of data to create of meaningful datasets for modelling.
  • Presenting analytical findings in clear and concise manner to rest of team and wider analytics community.
  • Documenting analysis and models in accordance with team and industry standards.
  • Keeping up to speed with latest NLP developments in open source space, investigating applicability of new libraries to our work, making recommendations and collaborating with wider technical community (InfoSec, MLOps, DevOps) in our company to enable their use in practice. 
  • Designing business use cases for NLP and critically examine our current backlog of ideas.
  • Being an advocate for data science within Admiral, helping the business understand where and when it can add value to their processes.
  • Contributing to the data scientist community within Admiral, including training and development of Graduate Data Scientists.
  • Supporting team with ad-hoc analysis, implementation and monitoring of solutions as required.
  • Undertaking structured data machine learning problems as the business requires.

About You

Whilst you enjoy research and proposing solutions, you keep an equal focus on delivering ethical models and business value. Equally, you will enjoy learning about the business needs and working with a range of stakeholders.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 2+ years’ experience working in Data Science or relevant field.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a quantitative discipline. 
  • Proven experience of developing models using supervised learning techniques such as GLM’s, gradient boosted ensembles, neural networks or deep learning.
  • Proven NLP experience including topic clustering, text classification and sentiment analysis, as well as experience with other unstructured data problems.
  • Knowledge of transformers, recurrent neural networks and word embedding techniques.
  • Knowledge of code repositories and other software development tools/processes.
  • Experience using Python or R, preferably within a cloud environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor communication across a range of technical and non-technical audiences.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience of using transformers, recurrent neural networks and word embedding techniques.
  • Proven experience using supervised learning techniques utilising both structured and unstructured data together.
  • Interest in GenAI.

We do not have a set salary for this position, as it will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience. We are happy to see CVs from all candidates who meet the requirements and will be happy to discuss the remuneration package.
