Having gone through a recent organisational refresh and alignment, the newly formed Data Tribe supports the ongoing evolution and implementation of our Data Strategy and brings together several key data, product and delivery hub functions, which includes; Data Assurance, Data Architecture, Data Delivery & IT Integration, Data Science & Analytics and Management Information that supports operational reporting, Insights & Business Intelligence for our EUI Business.

The Data Assurance hub includes; Data Governance, Data Management, Data Minimisation, Data Confidentiality Assurance, Data Quality Management, Retention & Deletion and Information Risk as core components and service areas.

The Data Assurance Operations Manager supports the Head of Data Assurance, Data Stewards, Business Partners, Metadata Management team, Data Quality team and Information Risk Lead through a range of managing, coaching, and prioritising the delivery of the team’s work in order to provide the business with their data assurance needs. As a key member of the broader Data Assurance leadership team, you will create an environment of collaboration, agility, innovation and ownership in support of the Data Assurance team and overall business ambitions.

Main Duties

  • Be responsible for implementing the Data Assurance Strategy through strategic technology solutions that supports and enables the achievement of overall business ambitions and outcomes
  • Support the Head of Data Assurance in implementing and maintaining the Data Assurance Framework (Data Quality, Metadata, Master Data, Data Models, Ethics)
  • Embed a culture and methods of data assurance by design into processes, working practices and behaviours, bringing transparency and auditability to all data processes
  • Through effective engagement and partnering with colleagues across the business, ensure a culture of safe, responsible and ethical use of data, whilst maintaining appropriate freedom to innovate and experiment
  • Implement a road map of data assurance enhancements, developing maturity levels in line with business appetite and aligned to our strategic reference architecture.
  • Provide advisory and consultancy services to the Data Assurance Forum and all working groups in the Data Assurance Framework, ensuring topics of strategic and operational importance are well informed and advised
  • Drive the realisation and implementation of Data Assurance technology requirements and in conjunction with Data Architecture and Data Stewards, own the tooling, roadmap and implementation patterns
  • Provide leadership to the Data Assurance Operations team and support colleagues across Data Assurance and the wider business who engage in data assurance activities
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and appropriate autonomy within the Data Assurance team
  • Develop and nurture enduring relationships with the Chief Technology Office (working with Enterprise and Solution Architecture)
  • Support the design and maintenance of a master data management solution to meet our Data Protection needs and serve our business communitiy

Behavioural Competencies & Experience

  • Have in-depth experience of implementing data assurance & governance strategies and road maps, with an evidenced background of having overseen effective implementation into business processes
  • Experience in harnessing the scalability and flexibility of Cloud Platforms to support data governance initiatives – including Google Cloud and integration with market leading Enterprise Data Catalogues
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of data assurance and governance, including data quality management, metadata management and tooling, data confidentiality assurance, data architecture and technology
  • Experience in implementing policies, standards, guidelines, technology, tools, metrics and standards for data management and governance frameworks
  • Leadership experience in creating and leading high-performance teams in both a line and matrixed environment
  • Strong experience of delivering tangible business value through data assurance and governance technology solutions
  • Good business acumen, with a solid understanding of business concepts, practices, and business domain language to engage in problem solving sessions and discuss business issues in stakeholder language
  • Experience of leading cultural change in the way data is used and governed in businesses, through technology and optimised solutions
  • Experience in driving data governance self service programmes and increasing data enablement through technology solutions and integrations

Skills & Qualifications

  • Excellent leadership and motivational skills
  • Extensive knowledge of data, project and consultancy lifecycle
  • Pragmatic and practical, with ability to tailor principles and standards to appropriate situations and audiences
  • Excellent communication, for example conveying information to diverse audiences in a way that is easily understood and actionable
  • Creative thinking, for example framing new ways of thinking about data assurance to drive adoption
  • Influencing, for example fostering group problem solving and solution creation with business and technical team members
  • Relationship management, for example creating relationships and quickly building trust with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent knowledge of data technologies such as Google Cloud Platform, MicroStrategy & Enterprise Data Catalogs (Collibra, Informatica…)
  • Knowledge of Data Quality, Metadata Management, Information Risk, Information Security and Data Loss Prevention concepts
  • Qualification such as CDMP Practitioner or above highly desirable
  • Strong experience in orchestrating technically broad responses to business and team requirements
