The Role

This role will be within in our Actuarial Team within Group Finance and reports to the Head of Reserving.   You would be responsible for supporting our actuaries with data management, processes and controls.  Currently, these are owned and run by actuaries, but we want to enhance our team with a data specialist to execute these tasks.

    • Improving efficiency in the data processing and control processes
    • Managing a single source of truth for actuarial data, including data definitions
    • Maintenance of documentation relating to actuarial data processes and controls
    • Improving data visualisation to enhance reporting and insights.
  • Leading the actuarial data aspects on our projects. Examples of upcoming work include:

    • Documentation of data flows for data underlying actuarial analysis and modelling
    • Rolling out data controls from main lines of business to smaller lines where new actuarial processes are introduced and tracking of the completion of these data controls.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong academic background plus excellent numerical and analytical skills
  • Proficient in spreadsheet and data tools. Experience in Excel, Access/SQL, SAS are essential, plus use of other programming tools and knowledge of Cloud extraction techniques are beneficial.
  • Knowledge of insurance data is beneficial.
  • Proven data experience is essential, as being a self-starter who can drive the actuarial data work is important.
  • Excellent time management skills required to work across business as usual and project work.
  • Ability to work independently and to strict data deadlines that underpin reporting timetables.
  • An eye for detail – not afraid of getting into the detail behind the data to challenge or be challenged.

  • Effective communication, relationship, documentation, and presentation skills
