Cloud DBA

The Cloud DBA will work within the IT – Data & MI tribe comprised of Developers, Engineers and System Administrators whose primary focus is to design and develop innovative technology solutions for a variety of internal stakeholders.

You will work with a team dedicated to developing pipelines and cloud infrastructure to source and process data within the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) You will also support the on-premise Teradata Intelliflex solution and be involved in the migration of this platform to Cloud (future state to be decided).

As we work within the Scaled Agile framework, we are looking for someone who can work both independently and as part of a team within a fast-paced and changing environment. This requires an individual who can deliver to agreed timelines, communicating effectively, and thinking innovatively.

Responsibilities

As part of a multi-discipline team challenged with building a cloud data platform, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of a variety of service and applications by providing engineering support to developers. This will include:

• Design, configure and maintain enterprise technology environments.
• Recommending & enforcing coding standards for best practise.
• Supporting the deployment and maintenance of cloud infrastructure.
• Producing applicable technical documentation.
• Managing cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines.
• Assist in troubleshooting of Cloud infrastructure and application issues.

You will also be expected to keep your skills up to date by following advancements in the field and researching new and innovative technologies and techniques.

Skills and Experience

• Awareness of working in an Agile environment.
• Practical experience using Teradata 17 & Teradata Vantage.
• Physical design and system configuration best practices.
• User and Database hierarchies and security.
• Solid database design and SQL experience.
• Working with logical and physical data models.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is ideal.
• Professional experience working on a multi-terabyte, high volume enterprise data warehouse implementation.
• Familiarity with data warehousing and Business Intelligence concepts such as slowly changing dimensions, star schema, OLAP and ETL/ELT.
• Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences including both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience and Strong understanding of Identity and Access Management.
• Monitoring and tuning of processes and procedures.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Significant and proven creative problem-solving skills.
• Technical competence and aptitude to learn new things quickly.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Experience working with command line in Linux, windows Powershell, bash.
• Knowledge on networking and firewalls.
• Use of tools such as Cloud Monitoring and creation of custom monitoring metrics using Monitoring Query Language (MQL).
• Our cloud strategy for Data is to use GCP and its components. There is a strong possibility of using other tools/applications to complement this such as Teradata Vantage, SAS Viya, Query Grid ,Starburst etc.  Knowledge of these would be desirable but not essential.
