Angela on already feeling completely supported and a valued member of her team

Introducing the latest blog of our I Belong series; giving you a peek into Admiral, meeting our fascinating and inspiring colleagues from around the Group and giving insight into our friendly, diverse and inclusive workplace culture, meet Angela…

I’m Angela and I’m still quite new here - I’ve worked at Admiral for less than a year! I started my career as a statistician and after a few years my interests turned towards risk management. I worked in very technical, mathsy roles for several years, before progressing into more strategic roles, looking at the wider risks that an organisation faces.

I chose to work for Admiral because of the culture – even at the interview stage I could tell these were my kind of people and that I wouldn’t face some of the barriers I have in the past. I haven’t been here long, but feel like I can really be myself and am a valued member of my team.

I enjoy working at Admiral because my work is varied and challenging, my team are knowledgeable and fun to work with, and I can be myself without feeling any judgement. I’m evaluated on what I can do rather than judged by what might hold me back.

I have invisible disabilities and Admiral has supported me by enabling me to do a job I love, with the adjustments I need, and in turn this gets the best out of me. It often doesn’t take a lot to support people with disabilities, but it makes a massive difference to people living with these extra challenges day-in, day-out!

In my team, we really bring out the best in each other. We collaborate really well, we listen to different points of view, and we don’t let egos or anything else get in the way of progress. I haven’t even met them in real life yet but I feel like I’ve known them all for years anyway!
