"This is an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer to join a multi-skilled agile team in the Digital Tribe within IT Delivery here at Admiral. This a role where you will be working closely with our vendors and contractors and responsible for developing APIs. You will also contribute to the development of our core chat bot applications which help customers to service their Admiral products.
IT Delivery is made up of small teams, that are inclusive, open, and collaborative. We encourage team members to share ideas, solutions and decision making to drive forward the effectiveness of the teams and products that we deliver.
The Role
You will be primarily responsible for developing APIs and supporting squad to deliver cloud solutions. We are looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive individual, who can think creatively to solve problems and meet technical requirements. You must be ready to research and learn new tools, technologies and patterns as required.
As we work within the Agile/Scrum framework, we are looking for someone who can work both independently and as part of a team within a fast-paced and changing environment. This requires an individual who can deliver to agreed timelines, communicate effectively, and think innovatively.
Responsibilities
- Analyse, design and develop APIs, cloud functions in one or more programming languages to aid the delivery of chatbots hosted on Cloud
- Perform deployment and maintenance of PaaS, Serverless services on GCP cloud
- Analyses program and application performance using various tools and techniques
- Implementation and delivery of relevant coding technologies to defined standards
- Implementation and execution of thorough unit testing and version control.
- Understanding of emerging technologies and their suitability to business demands.
- Maintaining existing solutions and identifying potential process improvement areas and recommend approaches remediating technical debt.
- Producing applicable technical documentation.
- Working alongside and collaborating with other Software Engineers in the wider tribe.
- Ensuring the software delivered is performant, secure and scalable.
- Code reviewing/monitoring coding standards.
Skills and Experience
- Ability to creatively think around a brief and challenge it if necessary.
- Thorough knowledge of all relevant coding languages.
- Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
- Prioritisation and time management skills to hit deadlines.
- Confidence to communicate ideas effectively to peers, seniors, and management.
- Ability to produce quality documentation as necessary.
- Able to transfer knowledge between other members of the team.
- A focus on continuous improvement.
- Able to plan and coordinate technical requirements and tasks across the team.
- Proactive approach to problem solving and a desire for continual learning and improvement.
Technical Skills
Essential
- Excellent Knowledge of JavaScript and nodeJS frameworks
- Working knowledge with Cloud technologies such as Azure and GCP
- Knowledge of developing APIs authentication & authorisation
- Knowledge of database concepts and SQL
- Experience of handling interactions with middleware and server-side applications]
- Experience of implementing and consuming RESTful web services
- Experience with Security frameworks (e.g., JWT, OAUTH2)
- Experience in API layer like security, caching, logging etc
- Knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
- An appreciation of CI/CD concepts and using tools such as Jenkins/Azure Devops
- Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
- Knowledge of Jira, Confluence
Desirable
- Have developed serverless functions in GCP
- Working knowledge with any AI/NLP platform (DialogFlow/ Alexa/ Converse.ai/ Amazon Lex etc).
- Working knowledge in contact centre operations such as agent skill routing, recording, transfers, knowledge/ next best action, work force management, agent scorecard.
- Awareness of Guidewire products such as Policy Centre and Billing Centre, and the Customer Engage Digital suite.
Interview Process
- There will be a two-stage process for this role.
- The first stage will be an online technical assessment and the second stage a 1 hour interview via MS Teams.
- Assessment and Interviews will take place throughout February.
