The Admiral Group is a multinational financial services provider, where data and technology are key to our success. We have an opportunity for an experienced backend Software Engineer to contribute to the development of a variety applications within one of our data and analytics teams.

You will work within the Data and Analytics tribe comprised of Developers, Engineers, Analysts and Data Scientists whose primary focus is to design and develop innovative technology solutions for a variety of internal stakeholders.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and curious individual, who can think creatively to solve problems and meet user requirements. You must have a keen interest in software engineering and be ready to research and learn new technologies as required.

As we work within the Scaled Agile framework, we are looking for someone who can work both independently and as part of a team within a fast-paced and changing environment. This requires an individual who can deliver to agreed timelines, communicating effectively and thinking innovatively.

Responsibilities

As part of a multi-discipline team challenged with building a cloud data platform, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of a variety of service and applications by providing engineering support to developers. This will include:

  • Contributing to the development and refinement of user requirements.
  • Designing innovative solutions to solve problems and meet requirements.
  • Supporting the deployment and maintenance of services and applications in the cloud.
  • Developing appropriate tests to support code.
  • Producing applicable technical documentation.

You will also be expected to keep your skills up to date by following advancements in the field and researching new and innovative technologies and techniques.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with containers and container-orchestration systems (e.g. Docker and Kubernetes)
  • Experience with a variety of programming and scripting languages such as Java
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions in the cloud (preferably using GCP)
  • Experience using and developing CI/CD pipelines (preferably using Azure DevOps).
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences including both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Understanding of database engineering concepts and SQL.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of networking concepts.
  • Exposure to GraphDB or NoSQL Data Management.
  • Exposure to infrastructure as code (IAC) using tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience building web services and microservices (preferably but not limited to Spring Boot).
  • Experience with programming in Python.
  • Interested in Cloud based Solutioning.
