"The purpose of this role is to assist in the development, delivery, and maintenance of our online customer portal application, specifically the claims functionality within the application.
Main Duties
IT Delivery is made up of small teams, that are inclusive, open, and collaborative. We encourage team members to share ideas, solutions and decision making to drive forward the effectiveness of the teams and products that we deliver.
The tribe is made up of multiple engineering squads and we are we are looking for a skilled and experienced Software Engineer to join one of our existing squads to help increase our capacity and bring new experience to the tribe.
- Development and deployment of the claims functionality within Admiral’s online customer portal application, which is built upon Guidewire’s CustomerEngage Account Management framework.
- Development of both Guidewire Digital Edge services (in Gosu) and Guidewire Digital front-end screens (in Jutro/React).
- Development of technical solutions with adherence to relevant technologies and coding standards.
- Implementation and execution of thorough unit testing and version control.
- Adherence to Agile Scrum methodology.
- Working directly with the Product Owner and business to develop solutions to support the product roadmap.
- Identify opportunities for knowledge transfer and provide, where appropriate.
- Ensuring the software delivered is performant, secure, and scalable.
- Code reviewing/monitoring coding standards.
- Feed into Claims Strategy and initiatives to drive improvements in our technology, tools, and ways of working.
- Understanding of emerging technologies and their suitability to business demands.
- This is not a full definition of the role but covers the main aspects and drivers for success.
Experience Required
Desirable:
- Commercial experience developing with core Guidewire Products version 10 or later (ideally ClaimCenter).
- Experience of working with Cloud technologies such as Azure and GCP.
- Experience with containerisation products such as Kubernetes and Docker.
- Familiar with build tools such as Maven or Ant.
- Knowledge of version control systems such as Git or SVN.
- An appreciation of CI/CD concepts and using tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
- Experience of deploying to and configuring web servers such as Tomcat, JBoss or Apache.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts such as load balancing, firewalls, resiliency, reverse proxies etc.
- Experience of performance testing using tools such as JMeter.
- Knowledge of identity management frameworks such as OAuth 2.0 or OpenID Connect and their application.
Essential:
- Commercial development experience in Guidewire CustomerEngage 11 or later – both Edge APIs (Gosu) and front-end (Jutro/React).
- Proficient in Gosu development.
- Working knowledge of JavaScript (ideally React), HTML and CSS, or a willingness to upskill in these areas.
- Experience of implementing and consuming SOAP or RESTful web services.
- Knowledge of database concepts and SQL
- Ability to creatively think around a brief and challenge it if necessary.
- Thorough knowledge of all relevant coding languages.
- Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
- Prioritisation and time management skills to hit deadlines.
- Confidence to communicate ideas effectively to peers, seniors, and management.
- Ability to produce quality documentation as necessary.
- Able to transfer knowledge between other members of the team.
- A focus on continuous improvement.
- Willingness to undertake training to upskill on our Guidewire platform and technologies.
Location
For Hybrid workers (within a 50-mile radius of our Cardiff HQ) there is an expectation to work from the office twice a month. For remote workers (outside of a 50-mile radius of our Cardiff HQ) there is an expectation to attend the office a handful of times a year when required (i.e big meetings, workshops etc).
