Senior Software Engineer - AI

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-skilled agile team in the Digital Tribe within IT Delivery, in which you will be part of the development of our core chat bot applications which help customers to service their Admiral products.

We are a progressive team working with technologies such as Java, JavaScript, Python, Guidewire, Angular, REACT and best in class tools such as Git, NodeJS, NPM, Azure Pipelines and CI/CD processes. 

IT Delivery is made up of small teams, that are inclusive, open and collaborative.  We encourage team members to share ideas, solutions and decision making to drive forward the effectiveness of the teams and products that we deliver.

Main Duties

• Responsible for developing, modifying and/or maintaining chatbot applications. Chatbot engineers code, test, debug and document chatbot applications.
• Implementation and delivery of relevant coding technologies to defined standards.
• Implementation and execution of thorough unit testing and version control.
• Understanding of emerging technologies and their suitability to business demands.
• Adherence to Agile Scrum methodology. 
• Working directly with the Product Owner and business to develop solutions to support the product roadmap.
• Working alongside and collaborating with other Senior Software Engineers in the tribes.
• Support and mentoring for other members of the tribe/squad.
• Work with shared services teams to ensure dependencies are raised and managed.
• Help to develop and promote the long term technical strategy.
• Support the deployment of changes into the production environment and aid in the investigation of live issues or incidents.
• Ensuring the software delivered is performant, secure and scalable.
• Code reviewing/monitoring coding standards.

Experience and Skills

• Ability to creatively think around a brief and challenge it if necessary.

Technical skills

Essential:

• Commercial experience developing with Java 8 or later.
• Knowledge of database concepts and SQL.
• Experience of developing middleware and server side applications.
• Experience of implementing and consuming SOAP or RESTful web services.
• Knowledge of the Java Hibernate, web services and Spring frameworks/libraries.
• Experience of developing applications using Spring Boot.
• Familiar with build tools such as Maven or Ant.
• Knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
• An appreciation of CI/CD concepts and using tools such as Jenkins, Azure Devops and Ansible.
• A good understanding of networking concepts such as load balancing, firewalls, resiliency, reverse proxies etc.
• Experience of working with Cloud technologies such as Azure and GCP

Desirable

• Experience in working with any AI/NLP platform (DialogFlow/ Alexa/ Converse.ai/ Amazon Lex etc).
• Experience with JavaScript frameworks/libraries such as AngularJS, Python or React. 
• Experience of deploying to and configuring web servers such as Tomcat, JBoss or Apache.
• Experience of performance testing using tools such as JMeter.
• Knowledge of identity management frameworks such as OAuth 2.0 or OpenID Connect and their application.
• Experience in contact centre operations such as agent skill routing, recording, transfers, knowledge/ next best action, work force management, agent scorecard.
• Awareness of Guidewire products such as Policy Centre and Billing Centre, and the Customer Engage Digital suite.
