About the Role:
Are you ready to shape the future of SME insurance? An exciting
opportunity has arisen in Admiral Business for a SME Proposition Underwriter.
Reporting to the Head of Insurance for Admiral Business, you will play a critical role in owning the management and delivery of multiple key projects whilst working with our partners helping contribute to the strategic growth and financial success of our unique insurance propositions.

when your skills and expertise will directly shape the future of our SME start-up business with ambitions to redefine the commercial insurance landscape for our customers. We distribute through a mix of affiliate partners, brokers, and direct channels, meeting customers where they are and how they prefer to buy.
Your responsibilities extend beyond traditional Underwriting. This role requires an open-minded strategic thinker with a strong background in insurance. You’re not just assessing individual risk but influencing the entire SME insurance strategy. You’ll be a key voice in shaping product development, guiding decision-making on underwriting strategy, and driving portfolio-level performance to deliver profitable growth. The successful candidate will ensure the customer remains at the heart of what we do and creating a culture that delivers against our customer purpose of trust, value and ease.
What You’ll Do
- Shape the Strategy: Define and evolve our SME portfolio with a growth-focused mindset.
- Lead from the Front: Be a trusted voice in high-level decisions on product, risk appetite, and innovation.
- Own the Portfolio: Identify market opportunities and ensure resilience and balance.
- Be the Technical SME: Provide guidance across the business on underwriting best practices.
- Build Better Products: Create and refine policy wordings that are clear, compliant, and customer-first. Our future product roadmap will be shaped by customer needs, data insights, and bold innovation.
- Ensure Compliance: Collaborate with governance teams to meet all regulatory standards.
- Boost Performance: Spot and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency.
- Use Data Wisely: Leverage analytics to support strategic decision-making.
- Set the Rules: Develop flexible underwriting rules and guidelines aligned with our goals.
- Champion the Culture: Promote collaboration, innovation, and a customer-focused approach.

- Deep knowledge of property and liability underwriting, including SME Package insurance and portfolio management

Tell us about you and your Admiral story?
I joined Admiral in October 2020 as a Renewals Consultant. I dealt directly with Renewals queries and then moved into the Customer Value team, dealing with mid-term customers and upselling Multi Product. During my time in the Contact Centres, I helped with Volume Recruitment from time to time, and this prompted me to pursue a full-time role in recruitment, which I started in March 2022.
