Senior Front end (React) Software Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-skilled, Agile team in the Digital Tribe within IT Delivery, in which you will be part of the development of our core customer facing portal which allow customers to service their Admiral products.

We are a progressive team working with languages and frameworks such as React, JavaScript and Java, and best in class tools such as NodeJS, Azure, Docker and Kubernetes.

Main Duties

• Development of the Customer Portal, with attention to adherence of all marketing brand styles Implementation and delivery of relevant coding technologies to defined standards.
• Implementation and execution of thorough unit testing and version control.
• Understanding of emerging technologies and their suitability to business demands.
• Adherence to Agile Scrum methodology. 
• Working directly with the Product Owner and business to develop solutions to support the product roadmap.
• Working alongside and collaborating with other Senior Software Engineers on the team.
• Support and mentoring for other members of the team.
• Work with shared services teams to ensure dependencies are raised and managed.
• Help to develop and promote the long-term technical strategy.
• Support the deployment of changes into the production environment and aid in the investigation of live issues or incidents.
• Ensuring the software delivered is performant, secure and scalable.
• Code reviewing/monitoring coding standards.

Experience and Skills

Technical skills

Essential:

• Excellent working knowledge of React.
• Understanding of Node.js and NPM.
• Understanding of JSON and executing server requests.
• Understanding of REST and SOAP.
• Excellent working knowledge of Javascript/Typescript, HTML and CSS (HTML5 and CSS3) with commercial experience of building websites across multiple platforms and devices.
• Experience of supporting browsers that do not support HTML5 and CSS3.
• Commercial experience in creating responsive websites.
• Working knowledge of Apache server config.
• Knowledge of version control systems such as Git or SVN.
• An appreciation of CI/CD concepts and using tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
• Experience of unit and acceptance testing.  

Desirable:

• Working knowledge of UI testing frameworks such as Selenium and Protractor.
• Understanding of Java programming language and server-side architecture.
• Experience of working with Cloud technologies such as Azure and GCP.
• Experience with containerisation products such as Kubernetes and Docker.
• Experience of developing with AngularJS.
• Experience of deploying to and configuring web servers such as Tomcat, JBoss or Apache.
• Experience of performance testing using tools such as JMeter.
• Knowledge of identity management frameworks such as OAuth 2.0 or OpenID Connect and their application.
• Awareness of Guidewire products such as Policy Centre and Billing Centre, and the Customer Engage Digital suite.
• An understanding of networking (load balancing, security, firewalls, reverse proxies etc).
• Understanding of native mobile app development (iOS and Android).
