About the job

We are looking for someone inquisitive and keen to make an impact using innovative analytical methods. You must be interested in machine learning, experience in natural language processing (NLP), and be ready to expand your skills as the field progresses.

Data and technology take centre stage in delivering our market-leading products. We have a large Advanced Analytics function that builds and deploys machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions for all business areas, including Pricing, Marketing, and Claims.

But we don't like to stand still; we want to provide business insight and solve business problems in new and innovative ways, working with unstructured text data, including product reviews, customer feedback and transcripts.

The successful candidate will report into the core Advanced Analytics function for training, support, development, and best practice. However, they will work closely with the business teams to develop meaningful solutions that best meet their needs. The role will cover a diverse range of approaches, including projects with unstructured data, raw text, speech, and images, as well as traditional structured data problems. With over 4 million interactions with our customers every day, we have a lot of data to be put to good use.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the business and solve problems using a range of advanced statistical, machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques.
  • Research new ideas and stay up to date with the world of data science.
  • Support other members of the team to ensure models are easy to deploy.
  • Be an advocate for data science within Admiral, helping the business understand where and when it can add value to its processes.
  • Contribute and commit to the training and development of Graduate Data Scientists.
  • Contribute to the data scientist community within Admiral in a positive way.

About You

Whilst you enjoy research and proposing solutions to the rest of the team, you keep an equal focus on delivering business value. Equally, you enjoy learning about the business needs and working with a range of stakeholders.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • 2+ years’ experience working in Data Science or relevant field.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline.
  • Proven NLP experience, including topic clustering, text classification and sentiment analysis, and experience with other unstructured data problems.
  • Experience with recurrent neural networks and word embedding techniques such as word2vec is beneficial.
  • Proven experience using supervised learning techniques such as GLM's, random forests, or gradient boosted ensembles.
  • Experience using Python or R, preferably within a cloud environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor communication across a range of technical and non-technical audiences.

Salary, Benefits and Work-Life Balance

We do not have a set salary for this position, as it will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience. We are happy to see CVs from all candidates who meet the requirements and will be happy to discuss the remuneration package.

When we return to our offices, we will follow a hybrid model of working.

At Admiral, we are proud to be a diverse business where we put our people and customers first. We have great benefits to ensure employees have a great work-life balance; it's one of the reasons we're voted no. 1 in the 2019 Sunday Times Best Big Companies to Work For in the UK. We want you to have an element of freedom to define a working lifestyle that supports this, so accommodate flexible hours wherever possible.

We are committed to supporting our staff when they go through parenthood and a valued source of support is provided by our Parental Leave policies. The policies allow staff to spend cherished time at home with their family, so that when they return to work, they can thrive and flourish.   Our policies go above the statutory pay requirements to encourage our staff to take more time at home when they become parents. As long as you've worked for us for 26 weeks, you can expect the following benefits. Maternity LeaveEmployees receive 16 weeks of full pay, followed by 23 weeks statutory maternity payPaternity LeaveEmployees receive 2 weeks full pay, 2 weeks statutory paternity pay and 12 days of unpaid leave (should they wish to take it)Shared Parental LeaveWhen both parents work for Admiral they can share the 16-weeks full pay benefit. So, if the mother/primary caregiver decides to return to work prior to 16 weeks, the other parent can pick up the remaining weeks on full payIf one parent is employed by Admiral, and together with their partner fulfil eligibility criteria, they can share the Parental LeaveAdmiral believes that the support doesn’t stop at Parental Leave.
