"This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-skilled agile team in the Proposition Value Stream within IT Delivery, in which you will be part of the development of our core systems. These systems, built around Guidewire Policy and Billing Center, currently supports both our Motor and Home Insurance Products, which make up the largest operational departments in Admiral.
We are a progressive team working with languages and frameworks such as Java, Spring Boot and Gosu, and best in class tools such as Google, Docker and Kubernetes.
IT Delivery is made up of small teams, that are inclusive, open, and collaborative. We encourage team members to share ideas, solutions and decision making to drive forward the effectiveness of the teams and products that we deliver.
The tribe is made up of multiple engineering squads and we are looking for a skilled and experienced Software Engineer to join one of our existing squads to help increase our capacity and bring new experience to the tribe.
Main Duties
- Development and publication of changes to the core GW platform.
- Development of technical solutions with adherence to relevant technologies and coding standards.
- Implementation and execution of thorough unit testing and version control.
- Adherence to Agile Scrum methodology.
- Working directly with the Product Owner and business to develop solutions to support the product roadmap.
- Identify opportunities for knowledge transfer and provide, where appropriate.
- Ensuring the software delivered is performant, secure and scalable.
- Code reviewing/monitoring coding standards.
- Feed into the value stream Strategy and initiatives to drive improvements in our technology, tools, and ways of working.
- Understanding of emerging technologies and their suitability to business demands

Experience required:
- Ability to creatively think around a brief and challenge it if necessary.
- Thorough knowledge of all relevant coding languages.
- Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
- Prioritisation and time management skills to hit deadlines.
- Confidence to communicate ideas effectively to peers, seniors, and management.
- Ability to produce quality documentation as necessary.
- Able to transfer knowledge between other members of the team.
- A focus on continuous improvement.
Technical Skills
Essential:
- Commercial experience developing with Guidewire Products V10 ideally Policy and Billing Centre.
- Knowledge of database concepts and Oracle
- Experience of implementing and consuming SOAP or RESTful web services.
- Willingness to undertake training to upskill on our Guidewire platform and technologies.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the Java Hibernate, web services and Spring frameworks/libraries.
- Proven knowledge of Java design patterns and Object Orientated Design.
- Experience of developing applications using Spring Boot.
- Experience of working with Cloud technologies such as Azure and GCP.
- Experience with containerisation products such as Kubernetes and Docker.
- Familiar with build tools such as Maven or Ant.
- Knowledge of version control systems such as Git or SVN.
- An appreciation of CI/CD concepts and using tools such as Azure Devops, Jenkins and Ansible.
- Experience of deploying to and configuring web servers such as Tomcat, JBoss or Apache.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts such as load balancing, firewalls, resiliency, reverse proxies etc.
- Experience of performance testing using tools such as JMeter.
- Knowledge of identity management frameworks such as OAuth 2.0 or OpenID Connect and their application.
Interview Process
There will be a 2- stage process. The first stage is an on-line technical test and second stage is an interview via MS Teams. Interviews will take place throughout November and December.
