Are you looking for a new challenge to step into a DevOps Engineering role where you can develop and build on your cloud engineering skills?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-skilled agile team in the DXP programme within IT Delivery, in which you will be part of the platform team supporting applications which help customers to service their Admiral products.

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining our cloud-based and on-premises infrastructure along with the CI/CD Pipelines. We are looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive individual, who can think creatively to solve problems and meet technical requirements. You must have a keen interest in cloud engineering and be ready to research and learn new tools, technologies and patterns as required.  

As a DevOps Engineer you will be responsible for fulfilling their objectives, actively seeking to improve their technical and other knowledge skills focusing on CI/CD and Cloud engineering. You will take a collaborative approach consisting of agile practices, processes, and procedures designed to facilitate rapid IT service and product delivery.

You will be working in our DXP spoke platform engineering team responsible for provisioning and maintaining the platform supporting the Agile Release Trains in the Value Stream under the guidance of Senior DevOps Engineers, supporting the software engineers by automating all aspects of the SDLC through CI/CD and contributing to the delivery of the DevOps and Cloud capability’s strategy.

Main Duties

  • Delivering Infrastructure as Code using Terraform to meet the Value Streams requirements.
  • Deploy and manage application workloads on Kubernetes clusters hosted in Cloud.
  • Taking an automation first approach to CI/CD.
  • Having a passion for learning best practices for Cloud Engineering.
  • Applying agreed standards and tools as required, to achieve a well-engineered result.
  • Supporting and maintaining existing solutions and identifying/remediating technical debt.
  • Contributing to improvements of our technical excellence and ways of working within Squad, Chapter and Guild forums
  • Reviewing other engineers code ensuring adherence to standards
  • Ensuring deliverables adhere to our alerting, monitoring, and logging strategy.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with GCP
  • Experience working with MemoryStore, Networking, Secret Manager, IAM
  • Experience of Security Tooling such as Checkov, Nexus IQ and other cloud-specific security tools
  • Experience in using GitOps tools such as ArgoCD
  • Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
  • Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices
  • Experience in application monitoring tools such as AppDynamics

Essential:

  • Experience of managing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Experience in GKE cluster setup and automated deployment of workloads using helm charts
  • Experience using Cloud technologies such as Azure and GCP
  • Experience using CI/CD concepts and using Azure DevOps for CI/CD
  • Experience of version control systems such as Git

Interview Process

There will be a 2- stage process. The first stage is an on-line technical test and second stage is a competency-based interview via MS Teams. 

Location

For Hybrid workers (within a 50-mile radius of our Cardiff HQ) there is an expectation to work from the office twice a month.  For remote workers (outside of a 50-mile radius of our Cardiff HQ) there is an expectation to attend the office a handful of times a year when required (i.e big meetings, workshops etc).
