"Cloud Security Engineers at Admiral are responsible for the ongoing security of Admiral’s multi-cloud environments utilising a mixture of cloud native, open source and commercial tooling. The successful candidate will have a proactive approach, strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and a desire to learn new technologies.
The role would suit someone who has worked with a diverse set of IT/security products across a sizeable on-premise infrastructure managed in-house and who has experience supporting the environment, and who has existing experience working with and securing cloud technologies.
Responsibilities
- The responsibilities of the Information Security Cloud Engineers are:
- The support and maintenance of Cloud Security Tooling and Platforms, including:
- implementing policy & infrastructure changes
- performing daily, weekly and monthly checks
- monitoring the availability of systems and responding to alerts
- Monitor the capacity of systems & supporting infrastructure and project future capacity.
- identifying and resolving issues
- preparing status reviews and reports
- Managing support cases to ensure issues are recorded, tracked, resolved, and follow-ups are done promptly
- To maintain an excellent working knowledge of current infrastructure and future trends
- To work with third-party suppliers of Security Products & Cloud Platforms
- To maximise security value from existing investments
- To work collaboratively with the broader Information Security team. This would include working with: The Incident Response team, assisting with incidents, and with the Security, Consultants to provide additional technical knowledge.
- To work collaboratively with cloud platform teams. This would include working on remediations, increasing awareness of cloud security and driving the usage of new security features.
- To take part in post-incident reviews and propose engineering resolutions to improve results in any future recurrence
Requirements
- Proven experience in supporting IT/Security Infrastructure
- Strong technical background
- Hands-on experience with at least one of the leading cloud vendors (Amazon Web Services, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
- Experience with Cloud Security Tools (e.g. AWS Security Hub, Azure Security Centre)
- The ability to pick up and learn new technology approaches and make rapid decisions on the best way to use these technological advancements to improve the overall security posture.
- Excellent communication skills, such as the ability to communicate effectively, constructively, confidently and professionally, are critical to the success in the role, as is the ability to work with IT and Information Security teams and the wider business.
- Excellent knowledge of Information Security principles and an understanding of the Cyber Kill Chain, MITRE ATT&CK and other information security defence and intelligence frameworks.
- Familiarity with a programming or scripting language such as Python or Powershell
- Keen attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
- Ability to actively manage workloads to meet business and department requirements.
Desirable Skills
- One or more technical Information Security Certifications such as:
- CompTIA: Security+
- ISC2: CISSP
- GIAC Certification: GCWN, GSEC
- One or more cloud certifications such as:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)
- Experience working within in an Agile framework
- Experience with all the main cloud vendors (Amazon Web Service, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
- Experience with Security Tools such as:
- Internet Filtering
- Email Filtering
- EndPoint Detection and Response
- Host Based Firewalling, HIDS/HIPS
- Antimalware
- Identity Management / Privileged Access
- Familiarity with regex / regular expressions
- A working knowledge of financial services and the typical business processes involved together with the threat actors and their relevant tactics, techniques and procedures would be of significant advantage.

Tell us about you and your Admiral story?
I joined Admiral in February 2012 as a Sales Executive and quickly grew fond of Admiral and its culture. It was clear there were many opportunities and different career paths. I moved over to our Claims function in 2014 as a Case Handler and from there I moved into Claims Underwriting, which lead to an opportunity to work in our IT department in a semi-technical role. I gained valuable insight into a side of the business that I never thought would have been possible. The time was then right to move into our People Services department where I have been since November 2018.
