Rob Rodger, Admiral's Chief Information Security Officer, has recently been named in the Global CISO 100 list for the third time. While it's a brilliant recognition of his impact in cyber security, Rob is the first to credit the people he's worked with throughout his career and the teams that have supported him along the way.
Since joining Admiral, Rob has helped shape how we think about cyber security, championing an approach that protects our customers while enabling innovation and growth. But outside of the day job, you'll find him mountain biking, exploring the Peak District, indulging his love of history and, perhaps surprisingly, reflecting on his former life as a radio DJ.
We sat down with Rob to talk about his career journey, the lessons he's learned along the way, what 'Be You' means to him, and why curiosity remains one of the most important traits for success.
Tell us about your career story so far
“I’ve moved around quite a bit in my career. Since joining Admiral as Chief Information Security Officer, I’ve had the chance to work with some brilliant people and help shape how we approach security across the business. Before Admiral, I picked up loads of experience in different roles - everything from leading security teams at banks to sitting on various boards.
What have I learned along the way? Mainly that security isn’t just about tech or ticking boxes. It’s about making things work for the business and helping people feel confident to try new things. I’ve learnt the value of teamwork, keeping things simple, and always being open to new ideas and ways of working.
What keeps me at Admiral? It’s the culture, really. People here are up for a challenge, and there’s a real sense that we’re all in it together. I like that Admiral sees security as something that helps the business grow, not just a barrier. Plus, there’s always something new to get stuck in to, and I genuinely enjoy working with the team.
What are your hobbies and interests?
Outside of work, I’m passionate about staying active and exploring new challenges. I enjoy hitting the gym, taking part in spin classes, and heading out for mountain biking adventures. Walking in the Peak District is a favourite way to unwind, and I’m an avid fan of both rugby and football. I also have a keen interest in history, and when I’m not outdoors or watching a match, I like diving into all things cyber – it’s not just part of my job, it’s a hobby too.
What’s something you’re afraid of?
“Having my eyes poked by sharp things - really does why need an explanation?”
One interesting thing about you?
“I was a radio DJ - no idea how I ended up in Cyber!”
Who would be your dream dinner party guests?
If I could host a dinner party with three guests, I’d invite Douglas Adams, Oscar Wilde, and Anthony Bourdain. Douglas Adams would bring his sharp wit and unique perspective on life, making every conversation both hilarious and thought-provoking. Oscar Wilde, with his legendary charm and razor-sharp humour, would ensure the evening was full of clever repartee and timeless insights. Anthony Bourdain would add a sense of adventure and authenticity, sharing incredible stories from his travels and, of course, his passion for food. Together, they’d make for an unforgettable evening of laughter, wisdom, and great conversation.
Be You is one of our People Promise pillars. What does ‘Be You’ mean to you?
For me, “Be You” is all about being authentic - showing up as the real, unfiltered version of myself every day. It means I don’t have to leave parts of who I am at the door, and I’m encouraged to bring my experiences, and passions to work. When everyone feels safe to be themselves, it creates a culture where people genuinely connect, support each other, and do their best work. That’s what keeps things interesting and makes Admiral a place where I want to stay and grow
