When I used to work as a pre-school teacher, I had no plans to go into pet insurance.
I enjoyed working with children, I loved how rewarding it was. However, I wanted better opportunities for progression, and it wasn’t until I started learning more about my friend’s job at More Than that I considered making the switch.
I found out that I could join without any experience or knowing anything about insurance as I’d be trained up in full. Since moving to Admiral, knowing I can help others, I have finally gotten that rewarding feeling back.
This was my chance to start a new career which I could build on.
I started as a Claims Assessor, then a few years later, after More Than came under the Admiral’s ownership, I became a Claims Support before progressing to a Senior role less than a year later.
As a Pet Claims Senior, my responsibilities include auditing Claims Support Coach approvals, coaching, and generally filling in any gaps for team support.
I’m also part of our Top 10 and Engagement committees, which is where I can play my part in making this a fun place to work for colleagues. I help plan Impact Hour days for colleague volunteering - our most recent one was at Little Miracles in Peterborough, a charity that supports children and their families who have additional needs or life limiting conditions. It’s probably one of my favourite parts of my job.
When our team heard about Admiral buying More Than, we were all naturally a bit nervous about the change.
I didn’t know much about Admiral, but one of the first things I saw was that it was awarded as a Great Place to Work for 25 years in a row. That was really promising and I thought maybe it would work out for the best. I’m happy to say, I was right!
I remember going to the HQ in Cardiff for the first time to attend the annual Staff General Meeting. I remember seeing everyone in the office and they all seemed so happy, I wondered what was in the Welsh water. Fast forward to now and turns out it’s not the water, it’s Admiral.
I can just be myself here.
I have never been happier at work. I can be me, and I’m not shut down because I talk too much. My ideas, no matter how silly they may seem to me, are always listened to.
I have met so many amazing people at Admiral, and I don’t mean just in Pet Claims. I’ve made some real solid friendships with people in other departments, who have all played a part in helping me grow confidence. Without the support of my managers, team mates, and friends throughout Admiral, I wouldn’t have pushed myself and be where I am today, and for that I can’t thank them enough.
