Our recent graduates raised over £30,000 for British Heart Foundation and The Wallich!

Our recent graduates raised over £30,000 for British Heart Foundation and The Wallich!

We’re all about helping more people look after their futures, striving for better together. What better way to do so than our fresh graduates coming together to raise a great deal of money for two fantastic charities!

As part of our graduate programme, every graduate takes part in 'Challenge Admiral', a fundraising project which tests their creativity, tenacity and collaboration skills, and what a challenge it was! With it being the first year of doing it all virtually, our grads had to think outside the box, and that’s exactly what they did.

Here’s how they did it:

  • The Grand Prize Draw raffle which included over 40 prizes, including a Playstation 5 and a two-week holiday to Tenerife!

  • Admiral merchandise including hoodies, travel mugs and facemasks.

  • Online pet show with prizes.

  • 27km walk from Newport to Cardiff.

  • Online gaming tournaments.

  • Local school charity day.

  • Half marathon in partnership with Admiral Active.

Our Graduate Programme Manager Leigh Manley said, “Challenge Admiral proved itself to be a winning concept once again in 2021 – a partnership approach that sees Admiral grads innovating to develop entrepreneurship, leadership, and a host of other soft skills relevant to the workplace, whilst providing financial support for charities doing outstanding work in Wales.”

340,000 people in Wales are living with the daily burden of heart and circulatory diseases.

Area Fundraising Manager BHF Cymru, Nikki James said, “I would like to say a huge thank you to the 2021 graduates at Admiral; they showed such commitment and enthusiasm to the Challenge Admiral scheme during challenging times. At the BHF, we rely solely on donations to fund our ground-breaking research that will get us closer than ever to a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases. A world where people affected by heart and circulatory diseases get the support they need. And a world of cures and treatments we can’t even imagine today.”

Mike Walmsley, Fundraising and Community Engagement Manager at The Wallich, said “Challenge Admiral is a fantastic example of business and charity working together for mutual benefit. The graduates had the opportunity to develop new skills, while Admiral gained a deeper understanding of how the graduates can apply that learning within the business.

“The Wallich will use the vital funds raised to continue offering specialist support to people experiencing homelessness and trauma in Wales. Almost 70% of people we help have reported a mental health challenge which directly contributes to or prolongs their homelessness. Admiral grads, and the money they raise, helps to fund projects like our Reflections Network, which provided 5,139 hours of mental health counselling last year alone. We are hugely grateful to the team at Admiral for their fantastic achievements and for doing something about homelessness.”

We can’t wait to see what the next cohort of graduates do!
