Online Service Automation Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-skilled agile team in IT Delivery, in which you will be part of the development of our core customer facing portal which allow customers to service their Admiral products.

The role of an automated tester is to design, build, test and deploy effective test automation solutions, using appropriate technologies to meet the goals of the IT department moving forward.

You will ensure quality standards are met and a delivery focussed approach is applied throughout whilst promoting continuous improvement within the team.

We are a progressive team working with languages and frameworks such as React, JavaScript and Java, and best in class tools such as NodeJS, Azure, Docker and Kubernetes. 

IT Delivery is made up of small teams, that are inclusive, open and collaborative.  We encourage team members to share ideas, solutions and decision making to drive forward the effectiveness of the teams and products that we deliver.

Main Duties

• Ability to analyse software requirements in order to write and execute comprehensive, thorough and effective automated test scripts and regression packs to verify the quality of new or enhanced software releases.
• On-going development and maintenance of automation framework; adhering to strict coding standards set within the team.

• Ability to record, report, analyse and manage defects found during testing and manage through to closure.

• To help raise the profile of testing within Admiral IT by providing high value automated test solutions and promoting continuous improvement within the team.

• Work as part of a team to design, build and execute tests to validate whether a story or feature meets agreed acceptance criteria.

• Automate functional tests using tools such as Selenium, Cucumber, Rest-assured and Protractor.
• Manage raising and resolution of defects for the team utilising tools such as JIRA.

• Understanding of emerging technologies and their suitability to business demands.
• Adherence to Agile Scrum methodology. 
• Working directly with the Product Owner and business to develop solutions to support the product roadmap.
• Input into Initiatives.
• Identify opportunities for knowledge transfer and provide, where appropriate.
• Feed into IT Strategy
• Ensuring the software delivered is performant, secure and scalable.
• Code reviewing/monitoring coding standards.

Experience Required

Experience and Skills

• Experience of testing complex IT projects through to completion, resulting in delivery of robust and high-quality applications.
• Proven software testing experience including functional, regression and exploratory testing of web applications and services.
• Automation experience using Selenium and Java (or similar OO language).
• Experience of Behaviour Driven Development.
• Must be passionate about testing and have a resilient attitude in pushing the test perspective within a SCRUM team; ability to raise issues within the team and beyond.
• Good analysis skills with proven ability to solve problems.
• Self-motivated, reliable and determined team player.
• Flexible and able to adapt to new processes and requirements in a dynamic environment.
• Able to plan and manage own workload, delivering results within agreed deadlines.
• Positive outlook and desire to learn and help drive and instil technical excellence within the Admiral IT department.
• Strong, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people as and when required.

Technical skills

Essential:

• Experience in a web-based application environment.
• Experience of writing and maintaining automated tests (Selenium Web Driver, Java).
• Experience in version management system like GIT, SVN.
• Proven knowledge and application of SQL.
• Experienced in defect tracking tools such as JIRA.
• Experience in BDD (Gherkin), Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud (Azure/AWS) will be an added advantage.
• Exposure to CI/CD (Jenkins/Harness), deployment pipelines.

Desirable:

• Experience of creating an automation framework.
• Experience in designing and implementing integration, security, performance, resilience or operational testing. The ability to analyse the results and recommend how to make improvements/resolve defects.
• Understand Azure Cloud pack for Integration, Integration patterns, Test Scripts.
• Have worked with one or more of the following: API Test Tooling: Postman, API or JMeter, Contract/ Mock/Integration Testing, Swift Messaging Hub, Config/Integration testing, payload/contract testing.
• Awareness of Guidewire products such as Policy Centre and Billing Centre, and the Customer Engage Digital suite.
