"The role of the Configuration Management Analyst is to support Admiral UK through identifying, verifying, controlling, and auditing configuration items (CIs) in a centralised Configuration Management Database (CMDB). The role is responsible for achieving this by ensuring that processes, tools and correct governance are in place and used per ITIL best practices. Configuration Management is an integral function of Service Management, and the role of the Analyst is to ensure that internal teams maintain the integrity of the CMDB through authorised control mechanisms.
Essential Skills:
- Experience managing a CMDB in a highly complex and regulated environment (financial or similar).
- Expertise in facilitating Configuration Management System (CMS) audits, ensuring the CMDB is routinely maintained and accurate.
- Excellent attention to detail and desire to produce quality documentation.
- The ability to manipulate CMDB data into meaningful reports and outputs for key stakeholders.
- Excellent knowledge of the role of a Configuration Analyst within an ITIL-based organisation, showing a clear understanding of the commercial value and impact to service if deviations occur.
- Experience in working effectively with Service Transition ensuring the CMDB captures newly launched Services and CIs.
- Methodical and analytical approach ensuring adherence to defined processes and conformance across the IT organisation.
Planning & Organising:
- Ensure the correctness of the CMDB is maintained through the management of CI staleness, duplication, and reduction of orphaned relationships.
- Ensure all CIs are recorded and relationships to CIs and/or Services are defined and maintained to support key stakeholder requirements.
- Maintain accurate configuration information on the historical, planned and current state of IT service components in order to underpin all critical Service Management processes.
- Ensure the discovery processes that populate the CMDB are maintained and continue to be effective.
Policies, Processes, and Procedures:
- Continually ensure adequate governance is in place for the lifecycle of Configuration Items.
- Enforce governance around CMDB policies & procedures by regularly meeting with stakeholders to ensure full awareness.
- Continually work to evolve as required the policies, processes, and procedures of the Configuration Management function.
- Ensure that configuration baselines are regularly maintained.
Desirable:
- Experience with ServiceNow, specifically CMDB, CSDM and Discovery.
- Experience with Cloud technologies, including the resource life cycle within a CMDB.
- Leveraging a CMDB for Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.
