This is an exciting opportunity that spans across all areas of the IT department, including Infrastructure technologies and application development. The Change and Configuration Team are responsible for controlling all Changes to the live environment. This role plays a vital part in that process, assisting and improving the overall quality of the delivery.

To succeed in this role, we are looking for a candidate who enjoys working independently within well-defined processes and procedures but also focuses on providing repeatable and high-quality results and interacting with customers professionally. A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement, balanced with sound reasoning, analytical skills, and exacting attention to detail, is vital to ensuring a precise and consistent output.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an excellent understanding of Change Management principles and best practices and will have at least 2 years of experience working within a technical Change Management environment. We would also consider candidates who have significant experience in Incident and Problem Management.

The department continues to build on and around the core systems to bring more innovation and technical excellence, including; Cloud adoption, Big Data technologies, and developing and expanding our digital offerings.

Requirements/Technologies

  • Demonstratable knowledge and experience in the day-to-day operation of the Change Management function within a large organisation.
  • Solid understanding of Change Management best practices.
  • Demonstratable knowledge and understanding of Configuration Management processes.
  • ITIL V3 Foundation minimum.
  • ITIL V3 Release, Control and Validation Capability Module level preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years in an Incident, Problem, Change or Configuration Management focussed role.
  • A solid understanding of current infrastructure technologies such as LAN, WAN, Server, storage, Virtual Desktop, Telephony and Cloud.
  • Understanding the whole software delivery life cycle would be an advantage, and knowledge of Agile Project Management Methodology would be helpful.
  • You will have a good understanding of the impact that failures in our technology can have.
  • You will not be afraid to challenge Change Leads and question implementation methods.
  • Contribute to assessing the Forward Schedule of Change and the Large Change Forecast.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and Chair the IT CAB (Change Authority Board) meetings to facilitate the introduction of new or changes to existing IT services seamlessly and with minimal disruption to the live environment.         
  • Support the Technical Change Team with the completion of impact assessments for Change Requests, specifically considering risk, impact and service availability.
  • Own the Pre-approved change (PAC) process and proactively work with operations teams to identify potential PAC candidates.
  • Work closely with the Configuration Management Team to ensure that processes operate seamlessly as a part of the broader Change and Configuration team and to ensure all changes are appropriately captured in the CMDB.
  • Continually review and improve the Change Management Process, ensuring that all processes and procedures are documented and up to date. 
  • Ensure that all Changes are prepared correctly and contain the right level of detail before being discussed at CAB.
  • Ensure the Change Management calendar is updated to manage possible contention.
  • Assist with all of IT when they have any Change related queries.
  • Manage the entire authorisation process (through the Change Management Tool) of all Change related activities in the live environment.
  • Using the Change Management software, ensure all completed IT changes are assessed after implementation and closed off. 
  • This will involve working closely with all teams in IT to ensure completion.
  • Ensure that all relevant evidence is prepared and attached to the change when IT Changes fail correct deployment or have a detrimental impact on the live environment.
  • Log and analyse all required measurements (KPIs) and accurately report on measures to support overall management Reporting.
  • Use all sources of Management Information to analyse trends to improve the future delivery of changes.
