Authenticity deserves celebration
This week our Accessibility and Neurodiversity working group has been championing the power of authenticity throughout Neurodiversity Celebration Week.
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a global initiative which celebrates diverse minds, and the neurological differences that make us stronger as a community.
With colleagues sharing their own lived experiences, panel discussions, inviting experts to share education around autism support, and highlighting resources and communities across Admiral for colleagues to make the most of – there’s been lots going on!
Meet Charlotte
Charlotte is a Claims Handler, whose neuro-joy list includes spreadsheets, weighted blankets and our friends in the animal world.
“I wear odd socks, not to make a point, I just don’t see why they must match! For me, Neurodiversity Celebration Week is about exactly that – celebrating small differences in how we think and exist in this world.
“Over time… [I’ve begun] to understand myself better. That confidence has grown at Admiral, where structure and clarity play to my strengths… what once felt “too much” – attention to detail, process improvement, questioning inconsistencies – is recognised as value and not a problem.”
Jordan, a Data Analyst in our Customer Operations team, loves music, video games, and cats. He feels the value of authenticity too.
“To me, embracing neurodiversity is about leaning into the things that help you [relax] and allow you to be your authentic self, as opposed to trying to conform to societal norms. It impacts how I show up by letting me be open and honest, as well as striving for an inclusive environment for all to be themselves.
“By having a mixture of… thinkers, [who] have different views and experiences, [we’re allowing] for a broader, more rounded sense of opinion that allows teams to create better outcomes… getting the views, thoughts, and ideas from one particular set of people will always create a bias.”
We know that owning your authenticity can unlock confidence, strengthen diverse thinking, and enables a culture Where You Can Be You – regardless of whether you wear matching socks 😉.
