Using Impact Hours to volunteer at dog rescue centre

Everyone at Admiral has two full working days they can use to volunteer at a charity close to their hearts. We call them Impact Hours, because we know how much they make a difference to the charities, and our people.

Many teams around the business choose to spend their Impact Hours together, as a way of connecting with each other and building a stronger team bond.

One of the teams in our Customer Loyalty department is a remote team, based in West Wales. They chose to use their Impact Hours at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli, and it was the first time they got to meet each other properly in person!

Nicola told us all about what they got up to on the day.

"It was a bright and sunny February morning driving down to Many Tears Animal Rescue. I arrived a little early, and while I waited for the rest of my team to arrive, I got stuck right in.

"I was asked to sit with the dogs, and was soon smothered in love, such was the dogs’ excitement to have someone sit with them. I became a human dog playground and climbing frame!

"Once the team arrived it was wonderful to finally be together. That strength and closeness we built over Teams during the last few months was just as present in person. Everyone set about the day with gusto, embracing the cleaning, moving food, socialising, and exercising the dogs, as well as patiently sitting with timid and frightened ones to gain their trust.

"It was a rewarding day for all, and it seemed like the dogs loved us being there. The day flew by, and we left with full hearts. We all felt like a strong and happy team, eagerly planning our next Impact Hours day together, with the aim to return to the rescue centre in the summer. We’re hoping to raise some much-needed funds for them too so we can take them some supplies and goodies on our next visit.

"We’re a new team so it was exciting to get together. We’re all remote spread across Wales, myself near Aberystwyth, so it was the first opportunity to see everyone, and it was so valuable. Despite the distance and time to travel to the office, I’ve even said I may like to work on site once a month as I really loved being with the team, although I’m very happy being 100% remote."
