Test Automation Engineer

The role:

We’re looking for someone who enjoys making a direct impact and has lots of experience in a Test environment.  You will be actively encouraged to contribute to all aspects of Testing, from maintaining the existing test automation frameworks, creating and maintaining automated test scripts, through to supporting testing with our many products.  As our business diversifies, you will be expected to work on and support new functionality as it’s developed.

This is a wide-ranging role where the Test Automation Engineer will come into a focused delivery team exploring & developing microservices & cloud implementations. You will be responsible for assisting the Senior Test Automation Engineer to maintain the automation framework and expanding the automation test coverage.

You’ll be reporting directly to the Delivery Team Manager and will be working collaboratively in an Agile environment.  Time Management is an essential part of the role as we aim to deliver a large programme of work before rolling into a stable BAU cycle.

Relationship management will play an important part as you’ll be working alongside Product Owners and Developers to establish testing requirement.

Main Duties:

  • Assist the Senior Test Automation Engineer with the continuous development and maintenance of the automation test framework that will support a new, large programme of work within the Admiral Claims department.
  • Help raise the profile of automation testing within the department by providing high value solutions and promoting continuous improvement within the team.
  • Mentoring junior population (when required), identifying opportunities for knowledge transfer.
  • Ability to analyse user stories, to write and execute automated test scripts and regression packs while verifying the quality of new or enhanced software changes.
  • Adapt and learn business context for automation testing and analysing manual tests to identify further opportunities for automation.
  • Ability to record, report, analyse and manage defects found during testing.
  • Clarify and challenge requirements and design.
  • Adhere to Technical and security standards.
  • Work towards being multi-skilled.

What We’re Looking For:

  • We’re looking for someone with technical experience in a similar environment.  The position has a heavy emphasis on coding and is very much a developer in a test role.
  • We require a Test Automation Engineer with the skills and experience to maintain a test automation framework and assist the team in creating and maintaining automated test scripts.
  • Communication! We like to see people communicating and making things happen. We promote an open, honest and diverse culture where you can be yourself.  You’ll need to communicate in quite a few different methods to staff, consultants and suppliers at all levels.
  • You’ll be juggling multiple tasks and projects, so prioritisation is important.
  • Experience of working in an Agile environment is essential.
  • We want someone who is passionate about continuous improvement and with innovative ideas to keep us evolving and pushing our team forward.
  • Experience of working on very large projects or programmes involving multiple suppliers and integrators is highly desirable.
  • Experience of working with Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) software development process using tools such as Cucumber.

Mandatory Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in Java, Javascript, C# or similar programming languages
  • Experienced in test frameworks such as Selenium, TestCafé or Cypress
  • CI Tools
  • Practiced in building frameworks on Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Skilled in implementing BDD frameworks using Cucumber
  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure or similar cloud technologies
  • Junit
  • TestNG
  • Use of source control tools, e.g. Git
  • Service & integration testing experience
  • API development
  • Experienced in SQL and Oracle database technologies
  • Proficient in Atlassian Confluence and JIRA.

Desirable Technical Skills:

  • Angular JS & Angular Components
  • Ansible
  • Build tools, e.g. Maven, NPM.
