AFSL is looking for a Senior Lawyer to meet the legal needs of AFSL and communicate legal matters affecting the business to the senior management team. 

This role will report into the Group Legal Function.

Overall Role as Senior Lawyer

  • To deliver proactive, effective and responsive legal advice to AFSL for the drafting and negotiation of contracts with third party suppliers across a full range of services and legal jurisdictions, to ensure that appropriate contractual protection is in place. 
  • To provide timely and professional written/verbal legal advice in relation to contentious and non-contentious matters including lending and financing arrangements, software licensing and development, technology issues, supply contracts, general terms and conditions, minor litigation management and other legal aspects related to the day to day operation of the business.
  • To create and implement processes and strategies to streamline contractual processes.
  • To assist AFSL to manage legal risk by providing legal advice, guidance and support. 
  • To keep up to date with changes in the law that may impact the business as well as developments relating to the provision of in-house legal services, for example, developments in technology which may help streamline processes.
  • To foster strong working relationships across AFSL and other areas of the Group as required and make a valuable contribution to the senior management team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with contract owners to ensure robust contractual arrangements are in place and understood across the business. 
  • Provide advice & support to help the business fulfil its regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively identify, manage and mitigate legal risks to the business. 
  • Support the organisational objective that the customer is ‘front and centre’ in everything that we do and help to make sure that our customers are treated fairly.
  • Ensure that continuing professional development is undertaken and appropriately recorded.
  • Ensure the appropriate systems and controls operate in the areas under your direct control.
  • Act in accordance and within the spirit of regulatory conduct rules.

Key attributes

  • Qualified lawyer with strong commercial post-qualification experience and with a minimum PQE of 8 years.
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) and stakeholder management.
  • Confident to independently handle a variety of routine legal issues as well as ad hoc legal queries.
  • Commercial in his or her approach and able to work autonomously.
  • A team player who can work effectively with colleagues at all levels who also has a detailed approach to their work.
  • Understanding of contract law and GDPR essential.
  • Experience/knowledge of CCA and/or lending business desirable.

Working Hours:

  • 39.5 hours a week (Flexi).
  • Part-time hours also considered.
