Admiral Group is currently recruiting for an Actuarial Reserving Analyst to join an expanding team within our Head Office in Cardiff.  Given the impact of the ongoing pandemic on working patterns, the role would require remote learning initially until we return to the office on a more regular basis.  This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has either started their career in actuarial work or who has been working in an analytical role and is looking to apply the knowledge and skills they have learnt to date within the area of Actuarial Reserving.

The role

This role will be based in our Reserving Team, which forms part of Admiral’s Actuarial Team which in turn sits within the Finance function.   As the Reserving Team has increased its remit in recent years, you will be expected to support and contribute to each of the key deliverables required of the Reserving Team. 

As a trainee, you will receive on the job training from members of the team to ensure that you are able to contribute from day one and quickly progress to taking on additional responsibilities.  Further formal development opportunities will also be provided as and when they arise.

From day one you will be involved in a broad range of work, working directly with a variety of different teams across Admiral.  Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparation and reconciliation of reserving data for motor, household and van products. For motor and van, this will include PPO data, ensuring it is fit for purpose for reserving and for submission to Industry Working Parties
  • Supporting the technical provisions preparation and documentation for motor, household and van.
  • Supporting the valuation of Periodical Payment Orders (PPOs) using our bespoke model.
  • Assisting the production of internal reserve reviews for our UK business, including motor, household and van, from the data stage to reporting
  • Supporting the delivery of regular Claims MI and monitoring packs.
  • Supporting the various IFRS17 workstreams when required.
  • Building a close relationship with our claims, risk and pricing departments on key reserving matters.
  • Supporting our Risk team, internal audit and our external auditors in their review of our work.
  • Working with our capital team to assist with their regular capital assessments, and feed into model developments and model use.

As an actuarial trainee, Admiral will / can provide a package to support study towards your qualification as an Actuary (FIA, AIA) with the IFA.

Candidate profile:

  • Actuarial Analyst – ideally 1-3 years’ experience within in an analytical role, actuarial experience a bonus
  • Excellent academic background and strong numerical and analytical skills - a degree in a subject with a mathematical element (2:1 or equivalent) is preferred
  • Proficient in spreadsheet tools (e.g. Microsoft Excel) with experience of VBA and SAS an advantage
  • Good ability to manage, manipulate and present data
  • An eye for detail – ability to delve into the detail behind the data/spreadsheets to challenge existing calculations
  • Prior experience of reserving methods is an advantage
  • Committed and enthusiastic about an actuarial career, with a genuine interest in actuarial issues
  • Good communication skills and able to build relationships within and outside of the Actuarial Team
