"Do you have experience in personal injury and are looking for a new challenge? Are you looking to take your first step into a fulfilling legal career? Either way, we’d love to hear from you.
As a handler in our Claimant Personal Injury department, you will specialise in handling claims involving suspected dishonesty or fraud. You will represent clients who have been injured because of a road traffic accident. The successful candidate will deal with a caseload of claims in which the Defendant is accusing our client of bringing a dishonest claim. We handle cases from the moment the allegation is raised, up to and including trial.
You will be required to review evidence (for example, medical records, gym records, treatment records, employment records and social media entries) to determine whether our client has prospects of overcoming the Defendant’s allegations. Being able to pick out inconsistencies in the evidence is essential to the role. You will be expected to issue court proceedings if our client does have prospects of success (full training provided) and you will be required to inform our client if you do not think their claim will be successful.
This is a great opportunity to join an exciting area. Our existing team is made up of solicitors, legal executives and paralegals of mixed and broad experience.
The Role:
We have two different positions available, depending on your experience:
- Pre-Litigation – Pre-litigation handlers review the evidence that has been obtained by our case assistants and, after discussing matters with the client, assess the prospects of the claim and decide whether the claim has reasonable prospects of success or not (suitable for candidates with no experience).
- Litigation – Our Litigators deal with litigated cases and handle them through to trial. This is a fantastic opportunity to build on your technical experience (suitable for candidates with experience).
The ability to prioritise your work in a busy environment will be essential to both roles. Assessing the merits of an opponent’s arguments and the underlying prospects of success requires an analytical mind. Excellent communication skills are a must, and you will be required to use the telephone effectively and professionally to speak with clients, witnesses, opponents and the Court.
Essential skills:
- Attention to detail
- Strong grammar and punctuation skills
- Good telephone manner
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Use of initiative to get things done
- An ability to manage time effectively, prioritise work and manage expectations
- For those interested in our Litigation role, prior personal injury experience is preferable
Experience with the following would be advantageous:
- Experience in the personal injury sector or other area of law
- Prior part 7 litigation experience
- Experience managing a case load and using a case management system
