Lead Data Scientist

We have an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong applied knowledge of data science to build and develop an effective analytics function, and enable our lending business, Admiral Financial Services Limited (AFSL) to make better, more informed decisions.

Reporting to the Head of Pricing & Analytics, the key focus for the successful candidate will be to build, develop, and support a team of analysts and data scientists. The team will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and embedding data science models within AFSL and for providing insight to support business functions.

Key Responsibilities

Building the team

• There is a small analytics team within AFSL that needs to grow to support the company
• Through experience it has become apparent that there is a material value to be gained from increasing data science capacity within the team, but also from training existing analysts to become more familiar with data science

Mentoring, training and leading

• Responsible for the day-to-day running and supporting of the team
• Foster an environment of continual learning and support, ensuring that the team develop their understanding and skills, and that you pass on your knowledge

Identifying areas to add value

• There are several business functions within AFSL that could be supported by an analytics and data science function, including Marketing, Collections, and Pricing
• Further exploring both known unknown areas in which data science, analysis and models could add value

Supporting business functions

• Play a key role in building strong relationships and further embedding Analytics into other key areas within the business to help provide insights to when setting strategy, and monitor effectiveness and efficiency within the other functions
• A small number of models have been built using machine learning techniques but are yet to be embedded. Further model use cases should be identified, and models should be developed, refined and implemented

Key Skills & Experience

• Strong knowledge of machine learning and analysis techniques
• Experience building and embedding models
• An excellent communicator and keen mentor
• A degree in a numerate subject would be desirable but is not essential
