We are looking for ambitious and enthusiastic graduates with a real passion for working with software, data and new technologies to join our collaborative and fast paced IT department at our global headquarters in Cardiff.

About the IT Delivery Graduate Programme

The IT Delivery department is focussed on improving our Insurance Policy Administration Systems to meet the needs of our Call Centre Staff and ultimately to improve the service we can deliver to our Insurance Customers. As part of our IT Delivery Graduate Programme, you’ll spend 18 months training as a Software Engineer to deliver and maintain software applications for our customer call centre functions. You will be working alongside and will be given exposure to many different areas of IT, such as DevOps, Cloud computing and IT security to name a few. To deliver great functionality to the user, you will be utilising the latest technologies and working in areas including Java, Guidewire, web development and DevOps, developing high value technology solutions to support and streamline business processes.

Main Duties

  • Produce high-quality, efficient software solutions to answer the requirements of the business.
  • Liaise with other areas of IT and maintain a good working relationship to ensure system crossover is dealt with effectively.
  • Conduct unit testing.
  • Train and develop yourself and gain new skills within role.
  • Contribute to improved ways of working and the software delivery pipeline.

This is not a full definition of the role but covers the main aspects and drivers for success.

What we’re looking for

  • Ability to think logically, with a strong software or business-orientated degree such as Computer Science, Business Analytics, Maths, Engineering or similar
  • Experience of working with object-orientated language (though not essential)
  • Some previous work experience (paid or unpaid, any industry)
  • The ability to drive change through your experiences, ideas and initiatives

This is not a full definition of the role but covers the main aspects and drivers for success.

We don’t require any knowledge or experience of insurance, although you should bring plenty of drive, energy and good communication skills. Our programme will give you a solid grounding in how we use our Policy Administration systems across the company to gain an advantage over our competitors.

Further to your day-to-day role working with software, business representatives, sharing insights and being responsible for your own work, we invest heavily in you and your personal and professional development. We’ll encourage you to push yourself and gain new skills. You’ll be provided training in your role to support your career development and depending on where you’re placed, will gain exposure to further programming tools. You may also complete a short rotation within another IT function, depending on your interest and training requirements. In addition, you’ll study towards a nationally recognised professional management qualification through the Admiral Academy and the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). You may also get the chance to gain additional qualifications, such as a master’s degree, which would be fully sponsored by us.

In addition to the support of the Graduate Programme Manager, you'll have your own dedicated business mentor and a graduate buddy for help, advice, and professional guidance throughout the programme.

Once you’ve completed your 18-month programme successfully, you’ll be ready to join our IT Department as a permanent member of the team. Our aim for the graduate programme is to help pave the way for you to have a successful and rewarding career at Admiral.
